HUDSPETH COUNTY, TX. - A driver led El Paso and Hudspeth County Sheriff's deputies in a chase along the interstate Wednesday morning.

Border Patrol Spokesman Doug Mosier confirms the incident involved hundreds of pounds of marijuana in a stolen 2005 GMC Yukon. The SUV came across the river approximately 1 mile east of the the port of entry. Border Patrol agents observed the vehicle and began pursuit, attempting to make an immigration stop.

The vehicle failed to yield and continued on Interstate 10 West towards Fabens. The SUV then made a U-turn and began heading south, El Paso and Hudspeth County Sheriff's deputies were alerted and soon gave chase as well.

The vehicle was stopped with a strip of road spikes just north of Texas Hwy 20, where the driver then got out and attempted to flee on foot. He was apprehended by CBP agents shortly thereafter. Agents reported hearing automatic gunfire coming from the south, though no injuries were reported. No shots were fired in return and the marijuana was seized from the vehicle. The suspect is described only as an adult Mexican man.

Apparently Congress is going to start debate on the STRIVE (part of amnesty) act tomorrow?
Can anyone find something on it?
I need to make my phone calls.

The subject and truck were taken to the Fort Hancock BP Station for processing. The national crime database showed the driver had a prior criminal history, including possession of marijuana.

The truck had been reported stolen and was turned over to the Texas DPS. The 1/2 ton of marijuana and 33 year-old Mexican national were turned over to the DEA in El Paso.

Hope they notified the Mexican consulate!
