Aloha Connie!
Wonderful choice.......one which I'll pass on to some friends who will regale the Canteen with tales of daring and debauchery!

Cool subject.
I trained on the prototype reactor for Nautilus up in Idaho. What a hoot.

Minor crisis is finally over and I can play for a bit. Our checks refused to print from the checkwriter. It's a good thing that
I know how to make it work from the Xerox copier. Unfortunately, when they spit out into the output tray, they don't want to lie flat, so I had to babysit very closely!! Thus my lateness.
How was the traffic on your way home? Not too congested I hope.

If you’re ever in Mobile, Alabama, check out the USS Alabama BB-60 (including the submarine USS Drum SS-228 and a nice aviation exhibit): http://www.ussalabama.com

All Freepers owe it to themselves and their families to visit the Submarine Museum (and adjacent USS Nautilus) in Groton, Conn. It is only a couple of miles off I-95, easy on/easy off, open year-round except Tuesdays, I think, and best of all it’s FREE! But there’s so much great stuff to see and do, esp. for the kids, I defy you to leave there without putting a Hamilton or a Jackson in the kitty. It is a wonderful place, even for sea-skeptical ground-pounders like Snickersnee.

Been there myself during the short stint I was stationed in Groton. It is a great museum.

And the silver goes to buccaneer....
I guess I won't be touring the Nautilus...I could just barely make the sub ride at Disneyland without screaming to get out.

He said that he was hospitalized—”sickest” that he’d “ever been” in his life. He didn’t talk about it until the ‘70s, and then only with family. Was he telling the truth? I don’t know. ...didn’t know him all that well. He had been in the service and seemed to be an honorable man the few times that I met him. He was thin and active but passed away (fluke heart attack) in his 40s quite a long time ago.

I actually operated with the USS Nautilus while on board the USS Leyte (CVS 32) around 1955 or 56 for anti submarine training. They had one demo for everyone on board that I recall to this day. They sailed to the horizon and submerged. A very short time later they surfaced by the Leyte. It was really fast underwater. I might be able to dig up a picture- given enough time.

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION
The light of God surround you The love of God enfold you The power of God protect you The presence of God watch over you Wherever you are, God is, And all is well. Amen.
BLESS THIS HOUSE Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.
