No Charges After Toddler Died In Car

No charges will be filed against a middle school administrator whose toddler daughter died last month when she was left in the back seat of her mother's SUV during a heat wave, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

Leaving the child in the car for the work day was "a substantial lapse of due care" but did not meet the definition of reckless conduct necessary for prosecution, said Clermont County Prosecutor Don White.

Brenda Nesselroad-Slaby, 40, is assistant principal at Glen Este Middle School, about 20 miles east of Cincinnati. Authorities said she left her 2-year-old daughter, Cecilia, strapped into a car seat for about eight hours on Aug. 23 while she was at work at the school.

Temperatures outside reached about 100 degrees.

I’m disgusted at the grandmother defending her daughter and acting like any one of us could do something that stupid.. she calls her daughter “extremely organized and detail oriented”..you’ve got to be kidding me.. the child was left unattended twice before..that doesn’t sound “detail oriented”...that sounds like someone more devoted to her own activities than to her children....

No way... when you have tiny children you not only check the car every single time but you check behind the car every single time you get in it.. that’s what being a responsible parent is all about.

When at least one co-worker [Tara?] mentioned the older girl and the mother staying 10 min. or more for a play rehearsal while the baby was in the car, that tells me that the co-worker disapproved. If she didn’t, she’d maybe not have made a mental note of it or the specific amount of time they left the baby.

Aside from the killer heat, why wouldn’t someone be concerned that someone could get to the child and kidnap her? That would be reason enough for me not to have left her. Kidnapping children is far too common, IMHO.

Spectator: "But taxpayers need to know!" School Board Member"We're not going to discuss that, period. That's a personnel issue and we will not discuss it"

Slaby, 40, has expressed her desire to continue working at the school, but several parents have voiced their concerns about her working near their children

Never mind, peon. You give your money, they decide. And why would this woman want to return to the school anyway? Why would she want to force herself on parents who don't want her?

Just, wow. If there’s a contract involved, the Board is out of line, IMHO.

Here’s the larger issue, too: what about her pension and insurance and other ‘perks?’ I say, they should buyout her contract and dump her post haste.

I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but if I forgot my child in a vehicle and they died, I think I’d want to curl up into a ball for a couple two three years. Job would be the last thing on my mind. Spending time with my other child would be most important.
