BOCA RATON - A new priest at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church was issued a citation for allegedly soliciting sex in a North Carolina public park's men's room recently.

Though the announcement came out this week, police issued a citation for solicitation to the Rev. Michael Penland in June during a Waynesville police sting operation dubbed Operation Summer Heat. Waynesville is located near Asheville, N.C.

Penland, who has been a youth minister at the Boca Raton church since November, allegedly followed an undercover officer and solicited sex from him, police said. Penland allegedly followed the officer as he left the park and was pulled over.

"The Episcopal Church has a zero tolerance policy toward inappropriate sexual behavior," Sherman said.

NOTE: He said they had a zero tolerance policy toward "inappropriate sexual behavior". Not against homosexuality. This was the first denomination to ordain homosexuals and had the first openly homosexual Bishop.

Had he met an off-duty cop at a gay bar and went to a motel, like a decent little sexual perpetrator, and wacked willies all night, it would have been fine with the Episcopal Church.

This priest is following in the footsteps of his leader, the bishop Vickie Robinson.

And now for the money excerpt that slams another torpedo broadside into the specious, ill-informed rants of numerous freepers:

'He told police he would lose his job if he was cited. When asked what he did, he dropped his head in his hands, according to the report. He told police he was a priest, married for 17 years and that his wife did not know of his homosexual affairs, police said. He told police he had been "participating in homosexual activity" for about five years.'

a Waynesville police sting operation dubbed Operation Summer Heat

LOL, they've spread from Asheville to Waynesville (although they were sort of in Waynesville already). I guess they just skipped over Canton..course everybody skips over Canton. There were a few questionable sorts over in Maggie Valley at one time as well

What’s up with arrests or charges in the summer, and the news doesn’t break till fall? I find myself wondering who is breaking the stories, and why.

With all the varied sex scandals with Protestant and Roman Catholic ministers and priests over the past N years, it's hard to point to this as a TEC failing but I am sure many here will.

“This priest is following in the footsteps of his leader, the bishop Vickie Robinson.”

You guys are not challenging yourselves making fun of the Episcopal “Church”. It pretty much parodies itself, and is barely even recognizably Christian.

This kind of stuff would not happen if Episcopal priests were allowed to marry.

This is no problem for the Episco-pagan Church. They’ll make him a bishop by next week just to show their appreciation for a “job” well done.

Not against homosexuality. This was the first denomination to ordain homosexuals and had the first openly homosexual Bishop.

I don't have a lot of love for liberal Episcopalians, but actually the United Church of Christ was the first mainline denomination to ordain open homosexuals (for about 20 years now), but, being similar to Presbyterians, they have no bishops.

4 years ago the Episcopal Church in the USA (ECUSA) (now just called The Episcopal Church, or TEC) did consecrate an openly homosexual bishop--and this issue is tearing apart the worldwide Anglican Communion--the 3rd largest Christian denomination on earth.

A majority of Episcopal bishops voted for the sodomite bishop--and that denomination is losing members in the tens of thousands every year.... Still, it's tolerance of homosexual behavior would depend largely upon the bishop...a few dioceses wouldn't tolerate it at all, though, unfortunately, most would. This month by the way, is key for the Episcopalians, as the rest of the Anglican Communion has given ECUSA an ultimatum...to not consecrate more perverted bishops or "solomize" homosexual unions... which, the liberal dioceses appear not to be willing to stop at all. The libs see themselves on the "enlightened edge", and are typically very intolerant of biblical obedient Christians. Look for after Sept 30 either: 1) the worldwide Anglican Communion to break up (if Canterbury sides with ECUSA) OR, 2) ECUSA to be put under some sort of disciplinary probation period..... I suspect it will be the #1) as the Archbishop of Canterbury is liberal on the sodomite issue--and the (evangelical, orthodox) African bishops appear to be in no mood to compromise (how can you compromise between "abomination" and "a new move of the Holy Spirit?"). I expect to see 2 worldwide Anglican Communions within 2 years or less. Of course everyone knows now that the Church of Rome has secretly tolerated active homosexuals for many years, even while officially condemning the practices--so at least the 'piskis are honest about it. Still, God's word is not ambiguous...homosexual behavior really is an abomination.

Good grief! Sure hope he’d been using a condom at home. I’d sure hate for his wife to get AIDS because of his stupidity.
