You obviously know NOTHING about Fred Thompson.

He was the lone holdout in several 99-1 senate votes on Federalist grounds.

He knows what he believes and he acts on it.

But for me, this illegal alien business will be the deal breaker for my vote in 2008 in both the primary and General.

As a citizen caught here in Mexifornia, illegal alien heaven, I second that!

That's why Duncan Hunter will be our next president.

Dream on. I would love to see him as president but he does not have a prayer. It is going to be Romney, Giuliani, Fred Thompson or Hillary.

Romney beats Thompson and all the other top tier on this issue. I was leaning Thompson until I found out more about Thompson’s voting record on immigration.

Sheriff Joe agrees with you.

Tancredo is a very good man and a fine American. I certainly would not mind him being President of the United States. Using my own comprehensive, analytical "grid sheet" it is just that Duncan Hunter comes out for me with the most points among the current crop of candidates for the White House, so that is who I am for currently.

I trust you have your own reasons for supporting Tancredo. Again, a decent and fine man, and 100% solid on a major issue with me. Good luck!

It will no doubt be debated here on FR over the next few weeks and months, and much will emerge, to make us all informed patriots when we go to vote for the best man to lead us to knock out Clinton/Warner (Mark Warner).

Hey, I’ll offer the same action as Perfect Rovian Storm and give you ten to one.

This is a complete gimme even at those odds. I’d go 1000 to one, but I want to at least collect more than the postage and fees on the insured, registered letter with my winnings inside.

Frankly, I doubt you have learnt a thing about Fred Thompson’s voting recod on illegal immigration matters.

I believe that you have taken distortions and outright lies that have been set about as facts by folks who have other fish to fry.

I see that you intentionally continue to cherry pick sections of FDT's comments on Fox News.

WALLACE: Well, let me put up on the screen something that you said last year about illegals, and let's take a look at it. "You're going to have to, in some way, work out a deal where they can have some aspirations of citizenship but not make it so easy that it's unfair to the people waiting in line and abiding by the law."

Now, you said, "Look, it's just not realistic that we're going to round up 12 million people and ship them all out of the country."

THOMPSON: Well, that's true, as a general statement. We woke up one day after years of neglect and apparently discovered that we have somewhere between 12 million and 20 million illegal aliens in this country. So it became an impossible situation to deal with. I mean, there's really no good solution. So what do you do? You have to start over. Well, I'm concerned about the next 12 million or 20 million. So that's why enforcement, and enforcement at the border, has to be primary. I think most people feel disillusioned after 1986 when we had this deal offered to them before, and now we're insisting that, you know, we solve the security problem first, and then we'll talk about what to do with regard to other things — certainly no amnesty or nothing blanket like that.

But figure out some way to make some differentiation between the kind of people that we have here.

You know, if you have the right kind of policies, and you're not encouraging people to come here and encouraging them to stay once they're here, they'll go back, many of them, of their own volition, instead of having to, you know, load up moving vans and rounding people up. That's not going to happen."

Based on the highlighted portions of his statement, there is NO doubt in my mind that in the weeks to come, if FDT has the courage to answer the question directly, he will admit that what he is proposing is, under certain circumstances, to compromise and give some kind of amnesty to the majority of illegal aliens.

There is also NO doubt in my mind that Fredheads will support this, as some freeper Fredheads have already admitted and do.

Fred Thompson aside Sturm Ruger, would you be willing to give ANY illegal aliens ANY type of amnesty?

The main thing that bothers me about Fred is how all the Fredheads come out in force to call you a tinfoil hat type if you question his actual voting records on key issues such as this and his membership in the Council on Foreign Relations, an organization dominated by George Soros and other one-world type. Yes, some people (such as Dick Cheney) are just along for the ride. Perhaps Fred is also . . . but with his supporters so unwilling to address it, I have to wonder.

While Duncan Hunter remains my favorite, I'd sooner take my chances on Mitt Romney. At least he had the excuse of governing an ultraliberal state. Fred Thompson has no such excuse representing relatively conservative Tennessee. Romney is no Ronald Reagan, but he's no G.W.Bush either. With Fred Thompson, I have to wonder.

So will I, and I’m no pushover when it comes to illegal immigration. Fred won’t get my vote if he’s been wishy washy on this issue.

The problem with ABI is that they commingle votes on legal and illegal immigration. You have to get down in the weeds to figure out the details.

Ping to a fine post #57 - this is what makes FR the place to get beyond the talking points.

I had to laugh last night during the debate when Rudy referred to him as “the actor who played me in NYC.”

Rudy's full of it. I can't say that I've seen all of the Law and Order episodes that include Fred, but I can say I've never seen Fred wearing a dress in any of them.

Thanks for the ping. As a Senator for eight years, Fred Thompson voted on thousands of issues. Some people are going to find fault with some of those votes. So be it. In the end, however, I don’t think they’ll get much satisfaction. For a few of these chronic nitpickers, buying the biggest pacifier on the market and sticking it in their big mouths will bring them a whole lot more satisfaction. Throw in a nice soft velvet blanket to keep their hands busy and away from the keyboards.

Thanks for the ping. Great post wasn’t it...

That’s why I’ve come to the place where I don’t get too upset when folks say something bad about a candidate. There are a number of games that are played on Capital Hill, and sometimes you have to vote against the grain to block the actions of idiots.

Several of those votes were very telling, the ones that went up or down on the bedrock problems, making it easier for illegals or harder for them. Thompson seems to have done the right thing on them. Very good...

I know what you mean. It is tricky to figure out the facts on some of these issues, they get so co-mingled.
