You don’t get unemployment if you quit, you get it when you’re let go - fired or laid off. Right?

Yes, and not fired for cause.

Here in Missouri you can get it if you quit - there's just a waiting period which isn't very long.

Reading the whole article it was explained that she is getting exactly what other unmarried couples would get in the same situation; only marriage allows for compensation in this case.
