(Sensenbrenner) Millionaire U.S. Rep. wins lottery again

MILWAUKEE - U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, already a millionaire and heir to the Kimberly-Clark fortune, is on a lucky streak. The Republican hit it big in 1997 with a $250,000 jackpot in the District of Columbia lottery. Then, last spring, he won $1,000 prize in the Wisconsin lottery, and he won another $1,000 in that lottery last week.

"I got lucky," Sensenbrenner said.

Sensenbrenner, 64, was born into a family that helped build Kimberly-Clark Corp., maker of Kleenex tissue and Scott paper towels, and he recently reported a net worth of about $11.6 million. He said he spends about $10 a week on lottery tickets.

The latest winnings came in a Super 2nd Chance drawing, in which people who mail in at least $5 in losing tickets vie for 10 $1,000 prizes each week. Lottery officials put the odds of winning just one time at 1 in 5,000.

Why is a millionaire even bothering with a lottery. Wait, he’s a politician, so his judgement is questionable by nature.

People play the Lotto because it’s legal gambling, not because they necessarily care about the jackpots.

Senator Gregg (R-NH) won a pretty good chunk of change in the lottery a couple years ago.

I call for immediate investigations into the corruption of this Republican with an obvious gambling problem.

When he won the lottery in 1997 he was at a covenience store to buy beer for an office party. He was an instant winner of $250k and still came back to the party with Old Milwaukee.

Cheap screw.

Doesn't he know that a lottery is a regressive tax on the poor?

Why anyone worth north of 10 Mill would even bother with lottery tickets eludes me.

Well, if he spends $10 a week ($520 a year) on the lottery and he has already won maybe $150,000 after taxes, I’d say he’s ahead.

A lottery ticket is simply the purchase of a dream.

What few realize is that if the dream is realized, for many the nightmare begins..

Not only is he a millionaire and a Senator, he apparently has the time (or the staff) to save his losing lottery tickets and mail them in for the 2nd chance drawing!

I wonder if he has a staffer to clip grocery store coupons for him too?
