Back from Iraq, Congressman Mike Arcuri gives his perspective

You can clearly tell exactly when upstate Democratic Congressman Mike Arcuri became frustrated. Just back from a 23-hour whirlwind tour of Iraq, the freshman congressman recounts a story of his meeting with Salam al-Zuwba’i, deputy prime minister of Iraq. Arcuri asked al-Zawba’i to tell him exactly how he should convince his constituents that American troops should stay in Iraq.

“The problem was, he didn’t answer the question,” said Arcuri, noting that al-Zawba’i instead spoke of the numerous other issues and the sectarian strife that faces his country. “My concern there is that if he doesn’t know why we need to stay, I’m very concerned that our troops don’t know the reason why we need to stay, and I think that’s a real problem, in terms of identifying what our mission is. I think that’s been the problem all along.”

I’m very concerned that our troops don’t know the reason why we need to stay...

The troops...and many Americans at home...understand why we need to stay.A 9th Century death cult called I Slam, also called the Religion of Pieces, has declared war on Western civilization.

I'll tell you what,Sparkie.....if you can 1)read the "koran"...2)watch this video (http://www.rawa.us/movies/zarmeena2.mpg)...and 3)watch a video of people jumping from the 98th floor of the WTC and you *still* can't figure out why we need to stay I'll...well,I'll do something.

Probably have a stroke.

“The problem was, he didn’t answer the question,” said Arcuri

Do politicians ever answer the question?

Especially second string politicians deputized to meet with third string politicians? Especially when they know the question is rhetorical, and that the questioner is unfriendly, and that he will twist whatever they say to suit his own purposes?

"...he didn't answer the question.."

The problem, Congressman, is that it isn't FOR him to answer the question, you nitwit. It is for YOU to answer the question.

The real PROBLEM, Congressman, is that you're so terrified of losing your job, that you're paralyzed into requiring someone else to GIVE you the answer.

Stop following, and lead!

I,m supposed to do a short response to our local paper on Arcuri’s visit. Any assistance would greatly be appreciated. I have tried to start the response several times but can’t seem to come up with any "printable" statements about this jerk. I hope you don’t mind if I take some of your more tamable (than mine) statements.

The answer should have been, “They are YOUR constituents Congressman - YOU answer them!”

Here is a response from a Joseph Bolton to Utica Obsever Dispatch (8 Sep).

“Arcuri visit to Iraq just smoke and mirrors”
“As a recently retired Army Officer who spent two years in the Middle East fighting the global war on terror, it’s obvious that (Rep) Mike Arcuri did nothing but hunker down for the 48 hours he was on the ground.

No thoughtful analysis, no mention of discussions with general officers. Nothing

He went there believing the same things he did before he left. Arcuri went to Iraq so he can have some cover to continue his anti-military policies. Thanks Mike.

I was actually naive enough that he was going to give the situation an honest look. Actually, now that I re-looked the article, Mike said it was “Hot.” Thanks for the insight Mike!”

Thanks Bruce,

I read that this Morning myself. Excellent piece. Wish I could control myself like that when it comes to Arcuri.
