I don’t think Bin Laden was ‘stroking’ the left. If you read the transcript very closely, you’ll see a couple of main themes.
First, all of mankind’s unhappiness is the direct result of departing from the Koran.
Second, the war and all the troubles in the world will continue until the world rejects capitalism and democracy and converts to Islaam.
Third, there is the invitation to convert. (You are obviously aware that an attack must be preceeded by such an invitation.)
It’s hard to see this as stroking the left since he also condemns the culture of the left. If he really wanted to stroke the left there would have been a lot more of the kumbaya, live and let left, non-judgemental, can’t we all just get along rhetoric. He does mention some liberal themes (global warming, etc) but he presents Islaam as the only solution. BTW, you really think the left would embrace a 2.5% tax rate?
