If it is freedoms that were reduced in search of terrorist in our country, it isn’t possible to secure our borders enough to prevent terrorist from getting in that have strong financial backing. We have thousands of miles of coastline that are basically undefended for anyone with resources. There’s also the Canadian boarder which is thousands of miles long that is essentially wide open. And then after that there are endless freight containers that come into this country carrying who knows what.
“After the speech, local farmer Les Nelson cuts through the crowd. He has a crewcut, wears worn jeans, holds out his thick hands, and says: Kill the terrorists, secure the border, and give me back my freedom.
Thompson looks to him, and says, deadeye, you just summed up my whole speech.
A plant, possibly, or somebody who had read what Fred had said, and wanted that reiterated. Had I been in the same circumstance, I would have done the same on my own. It’s the soundbite that I want my government to get.
I think many Americans feel just exactly the same way. When I read the article at The Politico (not known as a conservative site), this quote just jumped off the page at me. This is what Fred needs to hammer home at every appearance. It resonates and it is the message millions of us want our government to get.
This one does.

Now people have *taken* back their freedom on several occasions. Such occasions often involve lampposts, or big oak trees.
LOL, I just thought the same thing! Wonder what his screenname is..?
I would say freedom to self-defense - Fred is the only major pol I have seen with the stones to say concealed-carry at VT would have cut short the carnage.
I would say freedom of private property - Fred understands the dangers of Kelo and Kyoto.
I would say freedom to keep more of what you have earned - Fred is a federalist who believes in reducing the size of government.
Most of the freedoms that have been diminished over the years have not been in response to terrorists - but instead as an action of government at all levels. I'd say those are the freedoms Fred wishes to try and restore.
He’s got it wrong on one point however.
It’s not up to the Government to “give” you your freedom.
It IS up to us to Keep Our Freedom.
By force of arms against our government if necessary.
If you depend on the Government to give you anything, then you get precisely what you deserve.

Um... that's 'border.'
"Boarder" is one who rides a skateboard, snowboard, boogie board, or surf board, or who handles lumber or stays in a boarding house.
One of them who lives at the edge of the country would be a border boarder. The most restless of them might be called a boreder border boarder. ";^)
YESSSS!
Waydago FRED!
The same sort of thing happened at Fred’s visit to Nashua, NH, this afternoon.
Fred answered, directly and in detail, several questions from young members of the audience about healthcare and Social Security. He took the time to describe his thinking, and won them over. One guy who asked about national healthcare obviously had impulse-control problems, but Fred graciously answered his question, even after being interrupted by a non-sequitor from an elderly City Hall worker! (Where did these people come from?)
Fred did not offer glib sound-bites, but instead answered questions honestly.
Sorry. I know how to spell border. Just screwed up in this instance as I was in a hurry... But there are a lot of Canadian boarders... Particularly the snow type...
I strongly agree with all of those.
That’s why I asked which ones. There have been many rights lost down to the most basic like property rights. But the ones related to the fight against terrorism so far have been minor in my opinion. During WWII there were many, many more restrictions.
