I thought it was strange that Thompson elected to announce on Leno ... rather than participate in the debates. I can only make guesses, as to the reason why. He wants to be out there on his own? He wanted to appeal to the younger, more *hip* crowd attracted by Leno? Hard to say.

I know that it bothers me. I am trying to decide who I want to support and I would have loved to hear what he had to say, so I could draw a comparison. Sure I could read the paper and let them tell me what he thinks. Or I could go to his website and let it tell me what he thinks. But I would have liked to hear it from the man, himself.

Yeah, there will be *other* debates .. but I question why he didn't want in on this one. I don't know what to make of his decision .. but I will say it bothers me. It makes me wonder if maybe, just maybe, he was afraid.

It’s not hard to figure out at all, really. Your announcement for something like that should be a special moment that is as much about you and what you’re bringing to the table as possible. Getting on a stage with 10 other guys does not accomplish that.

There are EIGHT more debates planned before the primaries. As Fred says, he’ll be at all of them and do his time waiting on that stage for them to throw him a fish. If that’s what pleases you, you’ll see plenty of it. Though I don’t know why anyone would think that the ‘debate’ format we’ve seen so far is at all useful for anything.
