Mr. Sundance Goes Back to Washington
The New York Times ^ | September 9, 2007 | David M. Halbfinger

ROBERT REDFORD walks into the “Lions for Lambs” offices here drenched from a run in the late-morning furnace of August in the Napa Valley. It’s good preparation; he’s likely to face plenty of heat this fall. He’s putting the finishing touches on his most political movie since “All the President’s Men,” and he’s bracing for a backlash.

As if to fire himself up for battle Mr. Redford has tacked op-ed columns blasting the Bush administration to a bulletin board in the rented house he turned into a postproduction complex. “A profile in cowardice,” reads one headline. “This time, don’t say we weren’t warned,” says another.

And on a yellow sticky note, in his own scrawled block letters, are the words “Frustration, Responsibility and Sadness.”

The brave Hollywood director is taking on the McCarthyite establishment to make his breakthrough movie that's really sad, but shouldn't use sadness in the advertising, since that might scare the booboisie away and the film would lose money.

I just laughed out loud reading this article from Upsidedown World, where Hollywood liberals are oppressed by Republican Senators (yeah, Larry Craig is oppressing me!) and gadzillionaire actor/directors are bravely putting out the truth on "modest $35 million budgets" and the brave young actors are finally getting their education by reading Chomsky during breaks in the shooting.

Here's a couple of my LOL excerpts, but find your own, I didn't even make it all the way through the article.

“I wanted to say to the studio, ‘Don’t make this about the war,’ ” he said in a long interview on a sizzling terrace. “It’s not about the war. The war’s catalytic, but it’s not about that. It’s bigger.”

Wow, it's bigger than the war. Heavy, dude!

"A rising Republican senator (Mr. Cruise) tries to sell a new Afghan war strategy to a skeptical Washington reporter (Ms. Streep)..."

I guess it has to be a 'rising Republican senator', because no experienced Republican senator would bother trying to convice a WaPo reporter of anything and besides, the WaPo isn't the audience for a GOP Senator. McCain has found that out.

"...a college professor (Mr. Redford) tries to inspire a talented but tuned-out political science student (Andrew Garfield)..."

Whew, I can't wait to see this action hit the silver screen...the anticipation.

This was the last sentence I read in the article, I couldn't go on.

"For good measure Mr. Redford said he had also wanted for a long time to make a film about the politicization of universities, “about a teacher who was unorthodox, and who’d run up against the power of an institution that was conventional.”"

This has to be a brave conservative professor, who takes on the nihilistic, anti-American, anti-Christian, pro-terrorist, Ward-Churchillian universities of today's America, right? If you buy that, I have a bridge in Alaska to sell you.

Has Redford ever shown he has the ability to put together a complete sentence?

Yeah, when he and Newman were going over the cliff in 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' and Redford was screaming "Ohhhhhhhhh sshhhhhhh*******ttttt!"

That was his finest moment for dialogue, it was all downhill after that.

“Has Redford ever shown he has the ability to put together a complete sentence?”

Not without a script someone else wrote.

Glad to know there’s another Redford movie I’ll be sure to miss! He sucks, as does Tom Cruise. Ugh!

Think about all those people who saw the Da Vinci Code and decided it was FACT.

This film will attract the same mentality.

Liberals want a world where anything anyone wants to do is okay and every one should just be happy..no rules. No intellectual thought or reasoning. Kum by ahhh!

They are mindless blobs of protoplasm. If it is up to them we will all be dead blobs of protoplasm.

You know, there is a lot to be said for the "Just Shut Up, and Sing" school of thought regarding actors and singers and various chanteuse's voicing of political opinions.

Redford is a bit like Streisand- used to like his stuff OK, until he injected politics into it.

Now, why should I fork over my money to pay somebody on my opposite side?

I'm not going to do it.

From the article: “staying on message, doublespeak, not answering questions directly, all those manipulative things.”

Sounds like this is right out of the Clinton playbook.

This film will never be more elegantly reviewed.

Hollywood returning to its leftist roots.

Hollywood has acquired the leftist disease. They think they’re talking to America, but they’re only talking to each other.

I am not going to miss this one, I love laughing loud and often in theaters when a good comedy is playing. Who co-produced this, Mel Brooks?

"unorthodox professor"

Ditto to the extreme. I don't how many college profs I've had who felt the need to inform the class about their political views which ran the gamut from liberal to far-far-falling off the the left side of the world Marxist nut. Your story about a conservative prof in a lib institution fighting against the prevailing leftist atmosphere on virtually every American college campus would make an outstanding movie. Hollyweird will never make it.
