Moveon.org got it right.

.my letter to the NYT...

“General Petraeus or General Betray us?” was the clarion call from Moveon.org in Monday’s New York Times.

They had a right to be nervous, after all, they were clearly expecting the worst, why else would they spend over a hundred thousand dollars to try and intimidate a man they didn’t know and had never met?

On the face of it, their expectations of betrayal were well founded. Why, only a few months prior, General Petraeus had hurriedly taken the reigns from Peter Pace and was faced with an enormous task of making “the Surge” effective in Iraq.

How could they have anticipated such a stunning accomplishment?

After all, when you are mired in doom, gloom, and defeatism, how do you even imagine such success?

Moveon.org had fully anticipated a military catastrophe in Iraq, laying the groundwork for politically driven retreat and Viet Nam style abandonment that could be laid at the feet of the President, thus ensuring a Democrat victory in 2008.

So imagine their horror when General Petraeus, a soldier with impeccable credentials, and unassailable integrity, directed our armed forces to a spectacular success.

Quel Demarge!

What we clearly now have on our hands is a victory, albeit a stepping stone along the way, that those who love America can, and should, rightfully celebrate but is certainly a betrayal for Moveon.org....
