Newt is a policy wonk, hall monitor type, a serial adulterer, and always, always the Man With The Plan. If he decided to run, he wouldn’t make it out of the NH primary, so why waste your time?

Let’s make Newt president... of IRAQ! That will solve several issues all at once!

FRiend, this speech was not about running for president, it was about waging the war against Islamic terrorism in the way that will win, bigtime and finally. The speech was about how we might have reacted differently to the 911 attack and taken a different set of roads which we will ultimately have to travel to actually obliterate this irreconcilable evil in Islam. Try listening to the entire speech without a filter of ‘running for president’ ... Newt is not running for president, he is offering sound advice. He wouldn’t make a good president because he is too cerebral for the job.

I like most of what Newt is saying. He is indeed the Man With The Plan. Very good plan, I can add.

Is he the one to implement it? Maybe not. But how many winning coaches are there who can actually do what their athletes do when they implement the coach’s plan?.. (even when the coach used to be an athlete himself, in his prime? - very few top level athletes become successful coaches, ... but I digress ...)

In the group of 2008 candidates nobody can see the big picture like Newt. What I really would like to see is Newt not as President, but a very-very close President’s adviser. Lets say Fred/Duncan team with Newt as NSA.

Nailed It!

This ping list is not author-specific for articles I'd like to share. Some for the perfect moral clarity, some for provocative thoughts; or simply interesting articles I'd hate to miss myself. (I don't have to agree with the author all 100% to feel the need to share an article.) I will try not to abuse the ping list and not to annoy you too much, but on some days there is more of the good stuff that is worthy of attention. You can see the list of articles I pinged to lately  on  my page.
You are welcome in or out, just freepmail me (and note which PING list you are talking about). Besides this one, I keep 2 separate PING lists for my favorite authors Victor Davis Hanson and Orson Scott Card.

Since you bring it up, I would like to see a Thompson/Hunter presidecy, with Duncan Hunter as a working Veep in charge of getting the Southern Border fenced and manned and the Northern Border patrolled and controlled. IOW, I would like to see a new approach to the office of president, where a good veep is employed to get things done on a domestic or foreign front, making the veep more than a stand-by. I can see Newt as the ideas man who runs the behind the scenes maneuvering. But he would make a great Sec of State with greater authority. He might even make a good CIA director. Whomever is the Republican candidate should plan on utilizing Newt’s brilliance to the max ... he wants to help make us more secure, so we ought to let him! Put him to work for US again, he’s making enough off of his excellent books and novels.

"Irreconcilable Wing of Islam"

A lofty effort on Newt's part to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat - but I'm sorry to say that even Newt's inability to name the enemy makes it more all the more obvious that Newt's "alternative history" speech is nothing more than political posturing.

Imagine trying to explain the horrific casualties at Gettysburg without the context of the larger civil war still to be won as Lincoln so eloquently did in less than three hundred words, delivered at Gettysburg four months after that fateful battle.

Imagine trying to explain horror of Guadalcanal or our humiliating defeat at Kasserine Pass without the context of the larger world war still to be won.

Newt's my first choice -- sure wish he'd throw his hat in the ring.
