Supporting Iran's Democrats
A major theme emerging from yesterday's testimony by General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker is the harm being done to U.S. interests in Iraq by the government of Iran. So you have to wonder what was going through the heads of Vermont Democrat Pat Leahy and fellow Senators who recently slashed support for Iranian democrats.
The Bush Administration has requested $75 million to maintain existing aid for Iranian human rights groups, but the Senators chopped it $25 million. The Senators cited concern that "grantees suspected of receiving U.S. assistance have been harassed and arrested by the government." SO let's see: Because Poland's COmmunists often harassed Lech Walesa, the U.S. should not have assisted the Solidarity union movement? Meanwhile, inside Iran, the unpopular regime has increased its crackdown on opponents, arresting students and closing newspapers, while human rights groups report numerous cases of torture and violent repression of women's groups.
We're happy to say the money for Iran ws restored last Thursday thourgh an amendment offered on the Senate floor by Inderpendent Democrat Joe Lieberman.

I would be willing to support Iran’s REPUBLICANS, but not their Democrats.
That bunch wants the defeat of America. Freedom cuts them out of the loop and they hate that. Shame on them and their houses.
pong
For today's Defeatocrats, their mantra is:
We shall pay no price,
bear no burden,
oppose any friend
support any foe
to secure the curse of oppression and betrayal in the world.
Leahy et al belong in the Yuri I. Nosenko Suite for the duration.
Surely a Lord Haw-Haw for our time.
Do call him "Shirley".
Thanks for the phone #.
Sen.Lieberman was also among the only 2 to speak out against the MoveOn ad against Gen. Petraues (Biden being the other) and called it an “act of slander that every member of the Congress-Democrat and Republican-has a solemn responsibility to condemn”
No surprise that there’s Democrats in Iran. [/s]
