BAGHDAD, Sept. 11 Iraqis found themselves in a difficult position on Tuesday as they reflected on the report to Congress by Gen. David H. Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker. Although they say there is nothing they want more than to have American soldiers leave Iraq, they also say there is nothing they can afford less.

[. . .some say they want them here for a minimum of three years, and maybe even five years. Ms. Zubaidi said she thought five years would be the minimum. . .]
This story conflicts with the obviously skewed “poll” the AP commissioned and published yesterday:
WASHINGTON (AP) Overwhelming numbers of Iraqis say the U.S. troop buildup has worsened security and the prospects for economic and political progress in their country, according to a poll released Monday that provides a strikingly bleak appraisal of the war.
The AP “poll” was done by D3 Systems of Vienna, Va., and KA Research Limited of Istanbul.

We are going to be there for some time. As long as we keep on teh offensive, I’m fine with that. Hopefully, we will attack Iran soon as well.

Nancy Pelosi obviously needs to clean the wax out of her ears so she can hear. She left the White House today proclaiming 10 years in Iraq.

Maybe Cindy Sheehan will take her seat in 2008. How funny would that be.

We're not going to be leaving any time soon. Last I checked, we're still in Germany, South Korea and the Balkans. We will stay if a Democrat is elected President.

I think she's right. The Dems have grudgingly resigned themselves to reality. They would love to inflict a defeat on President Bush if they can. But they are not going to saddle it on a Democratic President.

Hopefully the full spectrum of Iraq shall come to the conclusion they have to pressure Maliki to play fair ball. His year plus in office has been to one sided.
I am almost convince a large share of Iraqi are not against the idea of power sharing but the problems continue to lie within the ruling SCIRI and Dawa party membership.

At least the Iraqis are much more realistic than the traitors and defeatists among us and they understand that without the US military presence there, Al Qaeda and Iran will control Iraq and cause them suffering beyond belief.
