Gleason, Murtha talk Petraeus
September 11, 2007
The Tribune-Democrat (Johnstown, Pennsylvania, John Murtha's hometown paper)
The states Republican Party chairman, Robert A. Gleason Jr., said he was appalled by a MoveOn.org ad that ran in The New York Times assailing Gen. David Petraeus, who issued a progress report Monday on Iraq.
And the headline on the MoveOn Web site on Monday said: Will General Petraeus betray us?
MoveOn.org doesnt deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence with Gen. Petraeus, said Gleason, of Westmont.
That being said, this ad goes well beyond a political attack. Their ad challenges the integrity and service of a great man who has served his country faithfully, he said.
MoveOn.org reveals the true sentiment of the Democrat Party and shows most Democrats have embraced the radical liberal left-wing of their party.
Petraeus outlined to Congress what he sees as the main military gains from President Bushs surge of 30,000 troops.
Not everyone was convinced.
Up is not down, the earth is not flat and the surge is not working, said Rep. Pete Stark, D-Calif., in a statement.
And U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Johnstown, will discuss Petraeus report at 10 a.m. Monday at the National Press Club in Washington.
Murtha will discuss The Petraeus Report and the Future of Iraq. He will lay out a roadmap for congressional action.
Murtha is playing a prominent role in the debate about the U.S. military presence in Iraq as chairman of the House defense appropriations subcommittee and as a key adviser to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Murtha Watch Ping. Murtha will be bloviating at the National Press Club on Monday.
I will not be shocked if that whiny wimp who reads the questions at the Press Club covers Murtha's beluga butt by avoiding queries about his premature media conviction of the soldiers in the Haditha situation.
See what happens when you don't vote because of principle?
Of course, but it's nice to know you see it too! :-)
Thanks for the ping, Smooth.
I really don’t understand why this pathetic old fool will speak at the National Press Club about General Petraeus’ report. He’s been shooting his mouth off about our involvement in Iraq for almost two years and has not said one thing differently. Every time he talks about it he says the same thing.
I’m sure murtha wasn’t too happy with Petraeus’ report, it counters most of the drivel he’s been spouting.
