I am back to view this after not having the time when I saw it originally posted.
My 6yo son has been having trouble sleeping lately and he was visibly upset last night.
When I asked what was wrong and got him to open up he told me he feared a man with a gun or a chainsaw breaking into his school.
When I prodded him as to why he thought such things he explained how his school has been practicing “lock-down drills” and the teachers explained why a little too vividly for a 1st grader.
I am very grateful to the school for taking such measures and trust they are prepared if ever there is a security breach. It is a shame that they have to discuss such sensitive topics with our children at such a young age but I figure “better safe than sorry”.
I hate to think of my son worrying about these things but that pales in comparison to the way I would feel if something happened at his school.
Just a sign of the times I suppose. It is up to us to be ready and prepared to make sure that Beslan never happens here in the USA.
Damn ... it’s heartbreaking .. that our kids and grandkids will never have the innocent, carefree childhoods with which we were blessed. Sickening ...
I’m relieved (and I’m sure you are) that your school IS aware of the risks and has a gameplan.
It’s *VITAL* that you watch this video, so you can be prepared to know what’s important and to ask your school the right questions ... forewarned is forearmed.
Please keep me posted on your efforts and their responses to your queries.

God bless the innocent little ones.
