C'mon, she'd already been granted special accommodations.
By the time she was in graduate school, MIT provided computers that scanned books and read them aloud to Currier; she was also allowed extra time on exams. ``MIT is a haven for someone like me," said Currier, who plans to put her education to use by studying the genetics of ADHD among other neurological disorders. ``It was very easy because I was in an environment that supported me."
She's been granted lots of special accommodations.
This charlatan will never do an honest days work. (and would you really want her treating you or your loved one?)
My prediction? She will have a lucrative career as a phony expert witness for hire to the Trial Lawyer Industry.
skim milk...HA HA!!!
I didn’t mean to be funny!
LOL!
“As if she cant find someone to take care of the rug rat, someone with a bottle of milk standing by. Ever heard of formula? Or perhaps pump it in advance? Liberals...”
I was going to have to explain the whole thing...but some folks already did!
:-)
And the funny thing here is..I AM NOT usually the one defending Breast Feeding..
Well, that doesn’t sound right...I am PRO breast feeding...but NOT PRO breast feeding EXHIBITIONISM!!!
LOL!
Here in Seattle....there are so many (Too many) wacky people who want to have a cause about EVERYTHING!
I was a pumping mom (sorry if too much info) and people STILL looked down on my because I wasn’t BREAST feeding the baby breast milk!
It is a strange place Seattle...nice place to visit and all that!
So...If it weren’t for the “explosion factor” that someone else mentioned...I would SO TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU!
And...given the fact that the silly woman has a “cause” about many other things...I would seriously wonder if this is a true need (which it MAY BE) or another reason to beat the drum...
“Yeah I was thinking 45 minutes for anyone over 9 hours is rough for anyone. 2 days seems reasonable though. How did she get thru medical school?”
Right???
45 minutes would not have been enough for me..and I was SUPER efficient at pumping!!!
LOL!
while the baby could survive one day on a bottle, it still won’t help the extreme pain that nine hours of not nursing would bring. However, simply expressing some milk during breaks would make it at least bearable. But I’m not buying it as a disablilty, sounds like she’s not ready for the test and is trying to weasel in every possible accomidation she can think of.
What I meant was that 45 minutes was not much time even for people not nursing. I guess it’s a good time for the docs to practice foleys:’)
“has already received special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act for dyslexia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.”
This is just the sort of person I want treating me medically.
There are people on this thread who have no idea how uncomfortable it can get if you don’t pump your breasts every so often when you’re breast feeding. And yes, if you go too long without expressing some of the milk, then there’s the risk of getting sick.
While I agree 45 minutes isn’t enough time to pump her breasts, I find this woman to be ridiculous. One would think she would be ashamed and embarrassed at pulling all these shenanigans.
I don't think the board is encouraging a suit. They simply want to try to keep everyone on a level playing field, which is de rigueur for standardized testing. Perhaps Ms. Currier should reconsider her priorities and take the exam next year.
If you think the board should keep on making exceptions for Ms. Currier, why not just let her have a take-home exam? I'm sure she would be very comfortable in that case.
She already has the opportunity to take the exam in two four and a half hour sessions with a night's rest in between. That's a far, far better scenario than anyone else is getting.
Maybe instead of filing a lawsuit she should be studying a little harder so she can pass this time. Or add a clause in her prayer for relief that she be entitled to an open-book test.
Allow me to correct myself. Because of her disabilities she can take the exam over two days, but it's two nine-hour days, only TWICE the amount of time that everyone else gets.
If she gets her license, she’ll have a hard time finding a job. She is trouble with a reputation to back that up and no one with any sense will hire her.
No reason she can’t take the exam at a later date.
Sophie Currier, 33, is requesting emergency multiple breast implants
that will assist her in feeding her children faster so that she may
do her job without loss to work time during feeding sessions.
Oh wow, I maybe had sympathy and understanding for the need to pump breastmilk for her infant, but to claim she needs to or ‘risk medical complications’? Since when were engorged breasts a ‘medical complication’? I’m assuming one sits for this exam ONE time(if they are lucky and proficient). She can suffer through engorgement for a few hours if this is important enough and she won’t be any worse for wear.
BTDT, sorry, not buying it especially given her history of DEMANDING special accomadations. Any REASONABLE person would delay the test until their infant is feeding less(perhaps when they start solids) or would probably tough it through the day and then express all through the night to help keep supply and relieve the engorgement. I’m certain she is not the first woman who has had to do that and won’t be the last and probably not even the first or last sitting for a medical exam.
I echo what others have said. I would not want someone so self-consumed to be in charge of my medical care.
“Maybe this dyslexic candidate with ADHD should consider a less demanding career than medicine. Maybe something in a library (no offense to librarians — I like libraries!).”
I agree! Let’s see what we have here, medical school, two small children(one of whom is nursing),dyslexia and ADHD. I can see that she really does want to have it all, but sometimes it’s just not feasible.
Sorry - Ishould let everything I read go through the brain and not just the eyes. I agree - no more accommodations. Lots of people have ADD - On the way to getting this DX somebody would have to have given her compensatory strategies. She needs to use them - or consider that perhaps her career choice just isn’t doable and pick another one.
