TITLE: "Mexican Consulates (in USA) Refuse to Grant Visas to Central American Undocumented Immigrants"

By Paula Diaz Diaro Hoy (213-237-4582) pdiaz@hoyllc.com

11 of September, 2007

(TRANSLATED INTO ENGLISH FROM SPANISH FOR FREEPERS. From the Original "Consulados de México niegan visas a centroamericanos indocumentados")

Los Angeles -- The Consulates of Honduras and Guatemala have expressed their concern about the problems that face undocumented immigrants from Central America, in the United States, when they wish to try to transit back through Mexico to go back to lands of their origin and return home.

The Central American diplomats said that the Consulates of Mexico in the U.S. do not grant visas to Central Americans who do not have or display legal documentation for them to be in the United States, even if those people only wish to travel through Mexican territory so that they can go back to their homelands.

"We have had several cases of some Hondurans who, after living in the U.S.A., decided to return to Honduras wit their possessions, and they are experiencing this problem (with Mexico). Mexico will not grant them visas, complained Vivian Panting, Consul General of Honduras. "This is something that many people do not know and find out only when they have begun their journey homeward."

"We had the case of one person who appeared before the Consulate of Mexico to ask for a transit visa because she had made up her mind to return to her country, and the Mexican Consulate refused her because she did not have documents which made her legal in the United States", she added.

Panting indicated that this represents an additional cost for which already they are prepared to initiate their trip.

On the other hand, the Consul of Guatemala, Milton Alvarez, indicated that also he has had similar cases reported to his consulate in the U.S.: People who wish to return to Guatemala but the cannot make this trip to repatriate to Guatemala over land because Mexico denies them visas.

Responding to this, Mireya Magaña, a spokeswoman of the Consulate of Mexico in Los Angeles, indicated that it is a question of following the lawas of her country.

"Their are established legal requirements in place whereby a visa for Mexico to nationals of a third country are required a valid passport, plus the valid visa of the third country they are in (in this case, the United States), plus a statement of their fiscal situation," said Magaña. "If they have these three requirements, the processing is very fast and we can issue a visa for all citizens of Central American countries. In the case of El Salvador, it will be a stamp, not a visa proper".

Magaña confirmed that, in conformance with these Mexican legal requirements, the Central American undocumented people are not able to obtain a Mexican visa.

In the webpage of Internet of the Secretary of External Relations of Mexico (SRE) the requirements necessary are detailed to obtain a transit visa to move across Mexico. Among them are: to present/display a passport or identity card which states the nationality of the traveler, the official admission of his or herself to a third country and to verify not to have impediment some for its readmisión in the country where it tries to document itself or in the one of origin. Not to fulfill these requirements, implies that the visa is denied, states the Mexican Government website.

Holy Enchilada!!

Did we Freepers ever hit the JACKPOT by finding and translating this article into English--showing the Mexican government's complete and abject HYPOCRISY on this issue.

This takes away any argument they have about Mexicans being given any kinds of rights in our country if they are on our soil in opposition to our laws.

Hypocrites! I mean, you cannot make this stuff up.

This pours more water than Hoover Dam can hold back, on Mexico and their newest saint, Elvira Arellano, and the "plight" of all illegal Mexican nationals in the United States.

I thought it’s a ‘public secret’ that Mexico actually has one of the most strict immigration law? Strict when it comes to people (mostly poorer Latin Americans) coming to their country, that is.

Just another new twist to Mexico’s unfathomable audacity and hypocrisy on this whole sick issue of their illegals on OUR territory.

They prefer to be the invader, not the invadee. Perfectly reasonable, from their perspective. Honestly, how can they complete their conquest - with the permission of the US government - of the United States if they’re invaded themselves?

I knew about the Mexicans’ brutal treatment of Central Americans on their southern border at the same time demanding rights on OUR soil, but it is rare to get official, foolish public quotes right out in the open from the Mexican government in the US that shows their amazing hypocrisy. A real keeper.

Mexicans have always been hypocrites about this stuff. Their border starts where the Belize border ends. Belizeans who want to go to Cancun are required to go get a visa, if you want to go to Chetumal (which is closer to the border with Belize), you either have to show a passport, or some sort of card that’s run through the computer. It’s not as if they wave bye to you as you drive by in your vehicle.

The more I read about it, the more disgusted I get with them, the Mexican Government. And these are people President Bush would say are our “friends” and people whom Fred Thompson would say “we love”.

Clearly Mexico wants the monopoly on illegal work in the US.

I am serious. I think Tom Tancredo or Duncan Hunter, or both of them should write an open, sarcastic letter to the Secretary of External Relations of Mexico. I will even help draft it. Then release it to the media just as soon as the stamp on the letter has dried and they post it.

"Excellency,

We trust matters are fine with you. It would be our pleasure to request an official visit to you in your offices in Mexico City. We propose a delegation of Congressional members from the United States intent on studying the immigration and border policies of various nations in our hemisphere.

We note with particular interest the current approach to immigration adopted by your esteemed government. Our Congressional study group wishes to study the methods of detaining and explusion of illegal immigrants on Mexican soil, and furthermore your successful program of denying transit to third nation nationals on your soil. We believe there are many aspects of current Mexican immigration law and policy which might be adopted in our own country and we would be most pleased if you and your staff could allot some time for our study mission, With our highest considerations, Sincerely," ===(list of Congressional signers)===".

Even as a sarcastic joke, it ought to be done.

If the translation is correct, it should be sent to some talk show hosts and TV commentators.

We must be terrified of losing Mexico’s oil or gas. Other than that, we should just close the friken border until they get religion. If Mexico want’s to play hard ball, then we should just shut down their economy until they wake up. And when you think about it, you’d be hitting the elite of Mexico the worst, since they’ve arranged it so they make all the money.

I’ve had it with Mexico. Let me rephrase that. I had had it with them after 1986. That was their last chance to get their act together for me.

Babelfish (Translator) used—to save time—with human touch-up/double-check afterwards to de-Yoda-ize the English.
