According to local Cincinnati radio, the Maupin family of Batavia, Ohio, heard that the search for their missing son, PFC Matthew Maupin, is now being considered a search for his remains.
They are really friendly, Christian people. They are not quitters. Whatever, the truth is, these folks need evidence one way or the other.
Almighty God, we pray for closure for the Maupin family. In the name of Jesus we pray; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
Gracious God, I pray for our soldiers. Let your grace be a protective shield, guarding them from harm and keeping them close to your love and compassion. May I always remember that they are the ones who face the horrors and dangers of war first-hand. Help us honor them for their courage and care for them when there is damage to their bodies or spirit. When they are lonely and afraid, and long to be with those whom they love, fill their hearts with the sure knowledge of your presence at all times, in war and peace. Let them feel, O God, deep in their hearts, that your love is always there—boundlessly, unconditionally, and eternally. Amen.
Usually, the jihadis want to show off their “victims” in a videotape, either alive or in the process of executing them. This guy was seen on videotape, but has since disappeared. No body was ever found, as in past disappearances, usually tortured and dismembered. They may have “converted” him to islam, and as much as I hate to say it, he may be one of them, now, via Stockholm Syndrome or brainwashing. But, at least he may still be alive................
I give credit to the Maupin family for the way they are handling this situation. They could be a Sheehan but they are not and my heart and prayers go out to them. I do pray that they get closure on Matt. They certainly have dealt admirably with this situation.
I recall a video of bad quality showing what might have been Matt being shot. It was a couple of years ago.
I think the family and those that have followed this have understood for at least two years its been a ‘search for remains’.
I’m in the next county to the east of where the Maupin family lives, and you can’t go into any store or shop without the posters ‘Remember Matt’.
It may have been poor quality on purpose. Since no body has ever turned up, I tend to think he’s alive and well and possibly a new Jihadi.........

That is just speculation, as I said. I would rather him be alive and well, and capable of being re-programmed than to give up all hope of ever finding him alive.......

With due respect, I believe that comment is way out of line. Unless you have darn good evidence, I give no quarter for someone crapping on the reputation of one of our heroes.
The speculation is just that, nothing more. If he’s been killed he truly is a hero forevermore. But these islamists are also into conversion to their faith, and have been for centuries, remember the Fox reporter, presented with the same choice......

Speculation or not, it is inappropriate to cast dispersions in this way without evidence. Think for a minute - if you were Matt’s parents and saw what you just posted. I can tell you, when my brother was there, had he gone missing and had I seen someone “just speculating” that he was a new Jihadi, I would have ripped them a new one. Can you put yourself in their position? They have most likely lost a son, murdered by terrorists, and you are denigrating him without evidence. Put up the evidence or shut up.
Matt disappeared not far from where I was posted at the time.

Matt was taken two days after my brother returned to us. It was so closely linked, I will never forget.
I say again, there IS no evidence! It’s just a way to leave a little hope that he is alive! I don’t wish to remove all hope that he is alive! And I do not want to denigrate anybody! .................
Then please, seriously, don’t speculate. “Your son is alive, but he’s a traitor” is not much in the way of hope. I’m not trying to be a jerk (maybe I’m succeeding anyway.) Speculating in this way is not constructive or helpful.
