Turkey provided Israel with intelligence on Syria prior to last week's alleged IAF flyover into the country, Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida claimed on Thursday.
According to the report, the country had a central role in delivering precise information regarding targets in Syria that were to be hit by Israeli planes. Further, the report claimed that the Israeli pilots were given authorization by the Turkish army to use its airspace in order to carry out the operation.
Sources told Al-Jarida that Turkish intelligence did not coordinate the move with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. "Coordination of the [release of information] occurred far away from the political echelon," it said.
The Israeli and Turkish armies share a strong relationship that has been felt through several joint exercises and weapons sales.
On Saturday, an unnamed Turkish official demanded explanations from Israel after fuel tanks allegedly dropped by Israel F-151 planes who were conducting a foray into Syrian airspace, were found on the Turkish-Syrian border.
Turkish paper Hurriyet reported that Turkey was demanding whether the Israeli planes also passed over its own airspace.

Thanks, Turkey.
NO THANKS to whoever leaked this story.
Charming phrase.
Whatever happened to espionage and secrets being kept “secret”. This should never have come out...
More properly, thank the Turk Military.
“From the outset in 1992, the Israeli-Turkish military alliance has consistently been directed against Syria. A 1993 Memorandum of Understanding led to the creation of (Israeli-Turkish) “joint committees” to handle so-called regional threats. Under the terms of the Memorandum, Turkey and Israel agreed “to cooperate in gathering intelligence on Syria, Iran, and Iraq and to meet regularly to share assessments pertaining to terrorism and these countries’ military capabilities.”
Turkey agreed to allow IDF and Israeli security forces to gather electronic intelligence on Syria and Iran from Turkey. In exchange, Israel assisted in the equipping and training of Turkish forces in anti-terror warfare along the Syrian, Iraqi, and Iranian borders.” (Ibid)
In 1997, Israel and Turkey launched “A Strategic Dialogue” involving a bi-annual process of high level military consultations by the respective deputy chiefs of staff. (Milliyet, Istanbul, in Turkish 14 July 2006).
Already during the Clinton Administration, a triangular military alliance between the US, Israel and Turkey had unfolded. This “triple alliance”, which is dominated by the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, integrates and coordinates military command decisions between the three countries pertaining to the broader Middle East. It is based on the close military ties respectively of Israel and Turkey with the US, coupled with a strong bilateral military relationship between Tel Aviv and Ankara. Amply documented, Israel and Turkey are partners in the US planned aerial attacks on Iran, which have been in an advanced state of readiness since mid-2005. (See Michel Chossudovsky, May 2005)
The triple alliance is also coupled with a 2005 NATO-Israeli military cooperation agreement which includes “many areas of common interest, such as the fight against terrorism and joint military exercises. These military cooperation ties with NATO are viewed by the Israeli military as a means to “enhance Israel’s deterrence capability regarding potential enemies threatening it, mainly Iran and Syria.”
” Amply documented, Israel and Turkey are partners in the US planned aerial attacks on Iran, “
To say Turkey would be involved in an Iran airstrike by the
US or Israel is a leap. Turkey has no serious disputes with Iran, so this supposition doesn’t pass the smell test.
Loosely translated; "the Prime Minister is a Muslim ratfink and Basher's butt buddy so he was kept out of the loop."
From Wikipeepee: "Erdoğan's Islamist sympathies earned him a conviction in 1998[4]. As Mayor of Istanbul, Erdoğan was the most prominent of 200 mayors and other local officials in Turkey; because he was a national figure and hero to millions of Islamic-oriented voters,....
Gotta like Turkey's military!
We.. bad!
Turkey is a NATO ally, yet rejected as an EU member.
Turkey's military is very conservative and anti Islam. They are Israel's natural (or unnatural) ally.

Maybe Abe Foxman will now claim credit for Israel’s achievement in knocking out that Syrian target?
I have read somewhere that Turkey has been allowing Israel to use its airspace for training. Same article described a deal where Israel was selling Turkey Merkava tanks.
Interesting.
