Michigan is a pretty tax burdened state. They are offering lots of incentives to “new” businesses wanting to relocate to MI but are taxing the existing economy to death. It’s a liberal bastion of socialism (by midwest standards). Indiana is doing pretty well as a result of having neighbors like MI and IL.

Too bad. It’s a beautiful state with great people.

Those youngsters had better run faster.

Our idiot dems in the state are voting TODAY on two bills — one raises our income tax from 3.9 to 4.4 or 4.6 (I’m betting the latter); the other hikes the sales tax to 7% and would tax some services.

Yes, the state is nearly 2 BILLION in the red but heaven forbid they’d make necessary cuts, like teachers fatcat benefits and lunatic spending policy in the state government itself.

Run away! Run away!

There is a reason that a large amount of poeple are moving from the north and north east to the south east and south west.

Jobs, healthy economy, and lower taxes (mostly).

But the northern states keep doing what they did to run people off in the first place.

Unfortunately, too many of those who have fled the liberal nonsense of the north continue to vote the same way when they get down here and will bring the liberal nightmare here next.

I’m sure that a lot of the people leaving Michigan will find employment elsewhere. Some, of course, won’t. Many years ago during one of the Detroit cut backs I was in an auto repair shop when a man came in looking for work. He was from Detroit and had worked for thirteen years as a “mechanic.” Almost all of that time he was a “door handle mechanic” installing door handles on new cars. The shop owner was polite but explained that he didn’t need door handle mechanics.

A Japanese doctor says, “Medicine in my country is so advanced that we can take a kidney out of one man, put it in another, and have him out looking for work in six weeks.”

A German doctor says, “That is nothing. We can take a lung out of one person, put it in another, and have him out looking for work in four weeks.”

A British doctor says, “In my country medicine is so advanced that we can take half a heart out of one person, put it in another, and have both of them out looking for work in two weeks.”

A Canadian doctor, not to be outdone, interjected, “You guys are way behind. We took a woman with no brains, transplanted her to Michigan where she became Governor... and now half the state is out looking for work.”

The only problem with this exodus is that many of the people leaving bring with them the same political ideology that screwed over Michigan and other liberal states to begin with.

Virginia is a perfect example of what happens when northern liberals flee to "greener" pastures.

Oh, I wish I was in the land of cotton,
Old times there are not forgotten,
Look away, look away, look away Dixie Land.

In Dixie Land, where I was born in,
early on one frosty mornin’,
Look away, look away, look away Dixie Land.

I wish I was in Dixie, Hooray! Hooray!
In Dixie Land I’ll take my stand
to live and die in Dixie.
Away, away, away down south in Dixie.
Away, away, away down south in Dixie

Unions are a boil on a free economies ass. Like all socialist thought, they attempt to “control and regulate” some aspect of a market. Labor left on to itself is like any other commodity on a market with a demand and supply side.

If politicians and common folk really want to do something for the American worker, stem the influx of illegals, control the importation of good manufactured offshore that do not conform to FDA, EPA, or were built in non-compliance of OSHA, FLSA and other standards in some sweat shop or even using forced prison labor. Left to itself, labor internal to the US needs no help from some Union, which essentially is a middleman adding to the cost of labor but not producing anything themselves. Unions are a leach that suck and live from the work and ideas of others. It’s the external threats that threaten US labor, and ironically Unions often add to the problem in this respect.

“Every week at my church I hear about two or three more young people moving South or Southwest,” Mr. Warren says. “Too bad, because Michigan needs to keep its young people.”

That’s O.K. Lots of radical Muslims are taking their place in the tax base.

I would suggest that Michigan voters take a basic course in economics. They are committing economic suicide.

Unfortunately, they are also hurting the rest of us.

As an aside, they’ve been leaving the state for decades for that reason. I myself left back in 1983 for that reason. And I was not the first one to get the idea. Most of my highschool acquaintances had already left for greener grass.

I will have to concede, though, that Granholm has greatly sped up the exodus.

The biggest problem with Michigan is one county—Wayne County (city of Detroit)—literally bringing down the entire state. Subtract this area and Michigan could actually be reasonably healthy economically.

About 43% of the people in this state have brains; the other 57% are sponges, either soaking up productive dollars or socialist propaganda.

Many downtowns in the north resemble movie sets for a depression era film, buildings boarded up, falling down. The real estate market is sinking fast and many people trying to sell are taking a bath. Vibrant small businesses are leaving and being replaced by second-hand stores and consignment craft stores. And I believe unemployment is 7.9%, not 7.2%.

My prediction - The northern counties will see 20 to 40% unemployment in 2008. Granholm the commie is strip mining cash from productive counties and giving it to her political hacks in Detroit, Lansing, Saginaw, etc.

Michigan - What America will be if hillary is elected.
