It's good to see Christian conservative professors doing cutting-edge research to disprove the lies set forth by the secularists.

a change in sexual orientation is possible

My orientation was to have sex. Often.

Then I got married.

The truth is that it is a behavior, and a learned behavior at that. Thus it can be unlearned.

Sadly this isn’t news. All one has to do is visit the library and spend a bit of time researching the data prior to the last 30 years also there has been a steady flow from many researchers not just Christian even in recent times.

Any man or woman who is honest knows that sexual attractions ebb and flow with many inappropriate attractions popping into ones head especially among men. This I can assure you involves attractions ranging from animals to women’s shoes and everything in between. Does anyone discuss the half human devils that haunt the dreams of man? Where do you think the ideas of the succubus came and other dark sexual demons? (btw I’m not referring to literal demons which is another thing altogether but the ideas)

The only thing that has changed is that we have shifted from a society that encouraged the suppression and control of inappropriate sexual attractions to one that largely affirms them. This has not produced one less suicide, one less rape, one less molestation of a child. If anything it has set lose a fire that consumes even more innocents and makes it harder for people to keep their priorities focused on things that go beyond sexual release like a stable family and healthy friendships that have nothing to do with sex.

Sex is good but there is nothing more dysfunctional than a creature that does not form normal mating arrangements in order to reproduce. One does not have to be religious or Christian to understand this very basic idea. The idea has only become clouded because of silly ideas about love and the equating of such with license for any type of sexual behavior.

I love my wife, my children, my parents, my grandmother, my dog, and my friends. I think a person of ordinary intellect should be able to correctly identify which is appropriate to have intercourse with. Love unfortunately has become a word used to cover all forms of nastiness. One only has to be sufficiently lonely and unloved to allow themselves to be thrust into the most horrid hells. I know such a person and she slept beside her bed while her ‘boyfriend’ had his way with the babysitter across the street which her 3 children were sleeping in their rooms not far away. She lay their crying because she thought she had found love. She blamed herself because she couldn’t give that demon undivided attention because she had to work. Love and sex are not harmless expressions of desire.

Do we think child molesters do not in some perverted way think they love their victims? Stalkers also do as much.

The two primary statistics of success cited:

“We found that 15 percent of our sample of about 100 claimed to actually have changed from homosexuality to heterosexuality. These people experienced significant enough change that they really felt like they had left one sexual orientation to shift into another. It needs to be said that this process is not like a light switch that switches from one switch point to the other. Life is still complicated for these people, and some still have some residuals of their homosexual attractions. However, they are people who report being able to function as heterosexuals, they’re happy with their marriages and they feel that their lives have changed dramatically.”

“The other type of success that we found in almost a quarter of the sample were the people who left the homosexual lifestyle and experienced very substantial reductions in homosexual attraction by embracing the Christian discipline of chastity, not acting on their sexual impulses. These were people who felt like they were free now to orient their lives not on their sexual, erotic desires and needs, but on their relationship with God and on healthy, nonsexual intimacy with other people. These two groups together — those who experienced what we call “conversion” to heterosexuality and the others who experienced chastity — made up about 38 percent of the sample. We feel these changes observed over this substantial period of time provide clear indication that the opinions of the secular mental-health field that change is impossible are simply wrong.”

The honest text itself, would indicate in both cases they did not change “sexuality”; they changed behavior and behavior alone. Still “gay” but either living (presumed happily) in a heterosexual relationship or in chastity. That is not a “change” in “sexuality”.

ping for later

Note: Of course sexual orientation can change.

Senator Larry Craig’s sexual orinetation changes each time he steps into an airport.

And don’t forget about Ellen DeGenerate’s former gal-pal Anne Heche...

Liberals are too...but they don’t realize it for some reason:

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1640436-4,00.html

Addiction is such a harmful behavior, in fact, that evolution should have long ago weeded it out of the population: if it’s hard to drive safely under the influence, imagine trying to run from a saber-toothed tiger or catch a squirrel for lunch. And yet, says Dr. Nora Volkow, director of NIDA and a pioneer in the use of imaging to understand addiction, “the use of drugs has been recorded since the beginning of civilization. Humans in my view will always want to experiment with things to make them feel good.”

That’s because drugs of abuse co-opt the very brain functions that allowed our distant ancestors to survive in a hostile world. Our minds are programmed to pay extra attention to what neurologists call salience—that is, special relevance. Threats, for example, are highly salient, which is why we instinctively try to get away from them. But so are food and sex because they help the individual and the species survive. Drugs of abuse capitalize on this ready-made programming. When exposed to drugs, our memory systems, reward circuits, decision-making skills and conditioning kick in—salience in overdrive—to create an all consuming pattern of uncontrollable craving. “Some people have a genetic predisposition to addiction,” says Volkow. “But because it involves these basic brain functions, everyone will become an addict if sufficiently exposed to drugs or alcohol.”

That can go for nonchemical addictions as well. Behaviors, from gambling to shopping to sex, may start out as habits but slide into addictions. Sometimes there might be a behavior-specific root of the problem. Volkow’s research group, for example, has shown that pathologically obese people who are compulsive eaters exhibit hyperactivity in the areas of the brain that process food stimuli—including the mouth, lips and tongue. For them, activating these regions is like opening the floodgates to the pleasure center. Almost anything deeply enjoyable can turn into an addiction, though.

I would suggest that further verification is needed. The procedure I would suggest is:

1. Before any reorientation therapy is commenced, do a PET Scan to determine the metabolic response of the hypothalamus to human pheromones.

2. Repeat the process, after the reorientation therapy. The goal is to determine if there has actually been a change in the response pattern to the pheromones.

Recent research has shown a difference in the metabolic response, between heterosexual men and heterosexual women. The research has also shown that homosexual males respond in a similar fashion to heterosexual women.

There are two compounds considered to be pheromones in humans. One is a metabolite of estrogen, and is found in the urine of women. The other is a metabolite of testosterone, and found in the perspiration of men.

Whenever a heterosexual female smells the male pheromone, the metabolic activity of the hypothalamus will light up like a Christmas tree. However, there is no response to the female pheromone.

Whenever a heterosexual male smells the female pheromone, the metabolic activity of the hypothalamus will light up like like a Christmas tree. However, there is no response to the male pheromone.

The research showed the reactions were reversed in the homosexual males. When they smelled the female pheromone, there was no response. However, when they smelled the male pheromone, the metabolic activity of their hypothalamus would light up like the proverbial Christmas tree.

So, this would be a good test, to determine if the alleged cures have indeed, changed anything.
