In a previous post, I argued that our military should be wary of embedded reporters who may have ulterior motives.
I cited a couple of American "independent" filmmakers who went to Iraq, sought the protection of our soldiers, and ran straight to air their film on Al Jazeera English. They interviewed Sheikh Abu Risha, who was working with our soldiers in an attempt the end some of the violence in Anbar Province.
SHEIKH SATTAR ABU RISHA: [translated] If you want to introduce me, I am head of the Iraq Awakening Council, leader of all the Iraqi Arab Tribes. I am real. I am not a ghost. And to the terrorists, I say that I will be in Anbar in five days, and if they want to see me, I am ready for them. Thanks to the telegraphed pass delivered via Al Jazeera, the Sheikh was assassinated. According to Democracy Now!'s Amy Goodman, "He died Thursday in a bombing near his home in Ramadi. One year ago to the day, Abu Risha organized twenty-five pro-US Sunni clans to form the Anbar Awakening to fight members of al-Qaeda. His assassination is considered a major setback for US forces in Anbar. President Bush met with Sheikh Abu Risha just ten days ago, during his brief visit to Anbar province."

Ally??
He was working against the insurgents. The insurgents blew him up.
What would you call him?
More like “Alli”, you know? “May cause oily discharge with flatulence...”
The Sheikh was indeed our ally in the War on Terror.
Good to know, sir.
I’ll take your word for it.
Thanks.
(This is what I get for quick posts at work...)
I saw that. I wondered if that same punk also helped produce the recent bin Laden tapes. He certainly is sympathetic to the al Queda cause.
You have my thanks . Big deal I know , but good work .
He doesn’t even realize (or seems to care) just how much blood is on his hands.
I never spit on a “thanks”.
You’re more than welcome. More should know about the treason within.
Everyone on the ground knew who he was. The reporters did not create the situation. The guy damn well knew the positive and negative responses to media relations. He ran a political machine, he knew how the media works in the Arab world.
While the reporters might and probably are despicable, you can’t blame them, for what transpired.
Liberals cannot understand that they must behave as adults. They are playing with lives, unfortunately, with the mentality of a bitter six-year old.
They can’t fathom what the word “responsibility” is and for any failing they may eventually agree to, they excuse it by blaming the behavior of others, providing them with a moral equivalence.
Liberals continue to assure that the US can never do something right across the world.
IDIOTS, ALL!
Sorry, but are you saying the Sheikh would still be dead even without broadcasting his intended movement on Al Jazeera?
I think one could assume that it wouldn’t have been telegraphed via an actual show by that time. If you’ve ever seen shows on PBS or the like, if both sides of a controversy are being interviewed separately, the producers keep some information back, “privileged”, for the viewer only to be made aware of at that later time when the whole event is over. This is what I would have expected.
But the producers seemingly passed this on to the very people who needed the information to do the dirty work.
Do you think they telegraphed back that they had told the enemy? I would say not, in light of what transpired.
Liberalism = idiocy.
I'm wondering if this clown was put up to doing the interview, and then passing on the info about the sheik's location, by al Qaeda.
I blame the filthy media for just about everything wrong in this world and I don’t shed a tear for them.
These people are disgusting.
His brother has stepped in to take his place. Two brave men trying to protect their people.
Great post.
