Much more depends in such circumstances on unpredictable factors like candidates' errors, campaign dynamics and external events than in a traditional incumbent contest. And the TV debate format is designed to produce conservative candidates' errors. The "objective journalist" moderator is generally to the left of most of the Democratic candidates, so the questions he poses are crafted to subject conservatives to pressure/embarrassment. In a very "objective" way, of course . . .
