In a scathing critique of the latest battle between GOP hopefuls Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney over who's tougher on illegal immigrants, the Wall Street Journal editorial board wondered if the candidates were "competing for the Republican presidential nomination or the job of vacation replacement for Lou Dobbs." Giuliani and Romney are actually taking their cues from a much closer source: fellow Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo. "The political elite in Washington have chosen to ignore this phenomenon," he said of illegal immigration. "You look at the Republican field and you see no one is going to make this the primary issue..." Tancredo, on the other hand, has done just that. Now it looks like the rest of the GOP field is following Tancredo's lead. Romney has been trying to make make a dent in Giuliani's tough-guy image by painting him as soft on illegal immigration. Romnay calls the Big Apple a "sanctuary city." Giuliani's own attempt to flex his immigration-enforcement muscles was launched last week in a radio spot. "I am happy that now almost every one of my colleagues standing up there on the stage running for the Republican nomination is sounding like Tom Tancredo when it comes to illegal immigration," the congressman told "Fox & Friends" this morning. "I want these words to be more than just rhetoric," he added.

Tancredo and Hunter are the best conservatives in the race.
“”Tancredo and Hunter are the best conservatives in the race.””
You can push those two guys all you want, but no candidate has more personal experience with illegal aliens than Mitt Romney.
>>>>>>For about eight years, Rosales said, he worked on and off landscaping the grounds at Romney’s home, occasionally getting a “buenos dias” from Romney or a drink of water from his wife, Ann.
“She is very nice,” said Rosales, 49.
About 6 miles away in Copado, a 37-year-old man who recently returned to Guatemala from the United States told a similar story, describing long days tending Romney’s 2 1/2-acre grounds.
“They wanted that house to look really nice,” said the worker, who asked to remain anonymous. “It took a long time.”
As Governor Mitt Romney explores a presidential bid, he has grown outspoken in his criticism of illegal immigration. But, for a decade, the governor has used a landscaping company that relies heavily on workers like these, illegal Guatemalan immigrants, to maintain the grounds surrounding his pink Colonial house on Marsh Street in Belmont.
The Globe recently interviewed four current and former employees of Community Lawn Service with a Heart, the tiny Chelsea-based company that provides upkeep of Romney’s property. All but one said they were in the United States illegally.
The employees told the Globe that company owner Ricardo Saenz never asked them to provide documents showing their immigration status and knew they were illegal immigrants.
“He never asked for papers,” said Rosales, who said he had paid smugglers about $5,000 to take him across the US-Mexican border and settled in Chelsea.
The workers said they were paid in cash at $9 to $10 an hour and sometimes worked 11-hour days.
Romney never inquired about their status, they said.
In addition to maintaining the governor’s property, they also tended to the lawn at the house owned by Romney’s son, Taggart, less than a mile away on the same winding street.
Asked by a reporter yesterday about his use of Community Lawn Service with a Heart, Romney, who was hosting the Republican Governors Association conference in Miami, said, “Aw, geez,” and walked away.<<<<<
Too bad the republican & democratic elites are so hell bent on destroying the country. Bush has a kind of symmetry in his head that goes like this. If we are beating al queda then its time also to beat americans.
Agreed! That’s why I’m a Tancredo supporter (plus he’s Anti-PC+ solid on almost every other issue, than immigration): A true Reaganite!
I support Tancredo. I hope he wins at least one primary.
I’m a Hunter supporter but can easily sidestep to Tanc if Hunter goes out first.
Hunter or Tancredo would be my top picks, but I also know they’re not going to get nominated.
Maybe not, but their presence is having an effect on the others, forcing them to address the tough issues.
Exactly! If there is one candidate who is not shy about saying what is really on his mind, it’s Tom!
Hunter and Tancredo are the best. This is what confuses me. Here we have two people that are not only on our side but they are and having been proving who they are. They are not just mouthing words.
Isn’t this what we have been looking for? Isn’t this what we need? Not just people who mouth the words we want to hear and have baggage and celebrity.
Do we really want an Arnold or more of the same or worse?
Nope, we want a person that is going to lead America for the good.
Another thing about Tancredo that people don’t realize is his strong support of human rights. No, not the BS human rights pushed by Hollywood, Tancredo supports genuine human rights by helping other countries help themselves.
Hunter and Tancredo ticket would rock! Even the yellow dawg dims would stop baying and take notice.
More proof the Wall Street Journal is a declining fishwrap.
Tancredo has worked long and hard on this issue. However, I think the other candidates are responding to voters who are hammering them relentlessly.
I agree whole-heartedly, and it cannot be said enough! Hopefully people will will remember what conservatism is all about, and will stand on their principles. Hang in there and fight the good fight, it is a looong time till the primaries, and a lot can happen.
It's great to see a Tancredo thread, there have been so few. Tanc is not getting the exposure he deserves.
I think that Bush's marvelous work towards the advancement of illegal immigration is going backfire bigtime on Dems and RINOs. If there's one thing the average oblivious citizen cares about, it's someone taking his job. You, know, the one he won't do. NTM having these massive pockets of foreigners in our country, some doing the CRIMES Americans won't do.
Yeah. He's made a change in what they say, not necessarily what they'll do, if elected.
