Two weeks ago, while my wife and I were having dinner out together in Shanghai, our table conversation was disturbed by a man two tables away who insisted on violating our privacy to, basically, tell us that he was one of these “world community” members.
The “stateless” man left China some years ago for a British education, holds both PRC and Swedish passports (according to him), and holds a U.S. Green card. He lives in the States and only returns to China on business trips. Of this I am relatively sure.
The man spent the rest of his time standing over our table badmouthing the USA, Britain and Sweden. So, I asked him, “What country do you call home?” He answered, I am only loyal to myself and to being successful in business and making money.” I told him that there are native-born American businessmen who are exactly as he is.
Was this guy you met Chinese American - You didn't say - it seems unlikely, the only ones I see like this are Caucasian
Boy,it sounds like this guy is a real clown. However, the concept of "statelessness" *does* exist although my belief is that relatively few people in the world qualify for this classification.
Simply put,to be "stateless" is to be a person who *no* country on earth will acknowledge, under its particular citizenship laws,as being one of its citizens.
