The round fired by the M-16 and AK-47 (5.56mm, and 7.62X39) are considered by gunnies to be medium powered. For example, it’s not legal in most states to hunt deer with a 5.56mm rifle.
The next military round up the scale would generally be .308 basically AKA 7.62NATO. This is almost as powerful as the old 30-06, which is high powered in anybody’s book.
“This is almost as powerful as the old 30-06, which is high powered in anybodys book.”
Actually, they’re pretty much even with a slight edge in velocity and accuracy at range to the 308. There’s a lot of empty space in a 30’06 case.
Except the .50 caliber shooters, who consider it a Mouse Round. To each his own. Or in my case, all to me. I like 'em all, from .22 rim-fire to .50 BMG. (and beyond).
