Tell your senator: Vote NO on Senate Amendment 2237
Exactly one week ago, I warned about the return of the DREAM Act, which would confer special tuition benefits on illegal alien students despite federal prohibitions on such special treatment.
It was September 11 and no one was paying attention, I guess.
Well, now bipartisan open-borders lawmakers in Congress are poised to slip the DREAM Act (Senate Amendment 2237 text here) in during consideration of the Department of Defense authorization bill (H.R. 1585) this week.
Numbers USA has the lowdown. The sponsor is Dick Durbin. Open-borders Orrin Hatch has sponsored previous DREAM Act legislation.
Refresher: Re-read Kris Kobach, Why the DREAM Act Is a Nightmare. Kobach recounts how 10 states ignored a federal law passed in 1996 to bar in-state tuition preferences for illegal aliens:
In addition to being a dream for those who have broken the law, the DREAM Act raises an even larger issue regarding the relationship between states and the federal government. The 10 states have created a 21st century version of the nullification movementdefying federal law simply because they do not like it. In so doing, they have challenged the basic structure of the republic. The DREAM Act would pardon this offense and, in so doing, encourage states to defy other federal law in the future.
One thing that has been learned in the struggle to enforce federal immigration laws is that states cannot be allowed to undermine the federal efforts to enforce them. Rule of law can be fully restored only if all levels of government are working to uphold it. Ive said many times before that when shamnesty doesnt pass wholesale, the open borders crowd will take it piecemeal. This is just the first piece.
So, which will it be: Sanctuary Nation or Sovereign Nation?
Via Numbers USA, you can send a fax to your Senators now:
Please do not attach any amnesty amendments to the Department of Defense authorization bill.
I am especially concerned about Amendment 2237, which would attach the DREAM Act to the bill. The DREAM Act is a loophole-ridden amnesty that would grant legal status to almost any illegal alien who applied for it.
On its surface, the DREAM Act would provide amnesty to illegal aliens who entered the United States before the age of 16 and grant them in-state tuition. At the very least, these provisions give preferential treatment to students who shouldnt even be in the country over our own young people - many of whom will struggle to afford higher education.
But that is not all that is wrong with the DREAM Act. The bill was written in such a way that there is no upper age limit and very little burden of proof placed on the applicant. A 45-year-old illegal alien who had entered the country less than a year ago could game the system by simply walking into a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office and providing a sworn statement that he had been in the country since before he was 16. Thus, this is an invitation for just about every illegal alien to fraudulently claim the amnesty.
This is a perfect example of the slippery slope of amnesty. Once you start rewarding some law-breakers, you end up rewarding them all. Here are Durbins co-sponsors and their phone numbers:

Thanks for posting.

Individual Senators e-mail addresses and tel # listed alphabetically here:

HI! Have you seen this?
I just spoke to Voinovich’s office and was told that the majority of calls coming in are IN FAVOR of the DREAM ACT being added to the Defense Bill.
Would you mind pinging Ohio. We’ve got to get this stopped again! We were warned by Roy Beck at NumbersUSA that the pro-illegal/amnesty groups were really going to step up their calls...apparently they have!
Thanks
If you have a ping list for your individual states, especially if you are in the state of one of the sponsors Michelle has listed or a state with Legislators that have been pro-illegal/amnesty, please ping Freepers to start making these calls TODAY!
Hi...see my post above...can you Ping Ohio?
hopefully, incoming calls are just a voice on the phone to them and recognized for the seminar calls that they are.....I just checked the e-mail contact info on a dozen Senator websites and all of them I checked qualify the sender as a constituent by addresses entered.......remember - “all politics is local”

Thread with additional information on STOPPING the DREAM ACT.
Well, my dream is to not have any illegal aliens in this country. I fail to see how this legislation accomplishes that.
Seems to me that we ought to start blitzing the House on this subterfuge to the rights of Citizenship and Sovereignty right now, BEFORE it flares up there, too......
So true...and the internet email setups don’t allow ‘out of state’ messages, but when someone sponsors or co-sponsors an amendment like this, I always feel that as an American citizen, I have the right to phone that Senator, no matter what state, and let him/her know my position. I will call each of them, even though I am in Ohio. I just tell them, as an American Citizen, I am opposed to the DREAM ACT and I am outraged that they would cosponsor an amendment that would attach the DREAM Act Amnesty to the Defense Bill.
Durbin’s Dream Act = AMNESTY
turns 100% of all minors into anchor babies regardless of citizenship. It is the open door to serial immigration AND
it compromises national security by puting illegals in the ranks. (compared to legal aliens currently allowed)
It appears that this list in the thread post may be incorrect. My second call to Lugar’s office I was told that while he co-sponsored the original DREAM ACT, he is NOT a co-sponsor of the Senate Bill to attach it to the Defense Bill and they do not know how he would vote. Sure. Anyway, I said NO DREAM ACT AMNESTY and outrage over it being attached to our Defense Bill.
The illegal aliens are calling.
In FL a group of HIGH SCHOOL KIDS are pushing for this illegal alien dream act.
“as an American Citizen, AND YOUR CONSTITUENT, I am opposed to the DREAM ACT and I am outraged that they would cosponsor an amendment that would attach the DREAM Act Amnesty to the Defense Bill.”
FWIW...
There is also a printout of all the Congress contact info, and I usually don’t use email because it is so easy for them to just hit the delete button. My phone contract allows unlimited long distance, so I do have the time and patience plus resources for this, but it takes a certain amount of thick skin too!
If you are in this country illegally, why should you get ANY government benefits? What is wrong with these Senators? ....obviously they weren’t serious when they swore to uphold and defend the Constitution.
We need to stay on this people, they had this organized ahead of time and are having the illegals and high school kids calling! We need to swamp them again, no matter how many they get to call, WE outnumber them and need to swamp them again.
