16 Catholic Senators Vote to Fund Abortion
Post Chronicle ^ | September 17, 2007 | Deal W. Hudson

Posted on 09/17/2007 10:57:56 AM PDT by yorkie

Last Thursday, 16 of the 25 Catholics in the U. S. Senate voted to overturn the "Mexico City Policy" to allow funding to overseas health clinics providing abortions. One of the 16 was freshman Sen. Bob Casey, Jr. (D-PA) who ran against, and defeated, Sen. Rick Santorum as a "pro-life" candidate. It's doubtful whether Casey, son of the legendary pro-life Pennsylvania governor Bob Casey, will ever be able to convince voters of his pro-life label again.

Not a Catholic myself but shouldn't that read:

“16 Senators, who profess to be Catholics, fund abortion”

The Vatican makes idle threats about excommunication. They never do anything though.

Santorum struck me as a great Senator. Big loss.

I’m surprised it took Casey this long to show his true colors. His father must be spinning in his grave.

Pennsylvania voters are among the dumbest in the country. Nice work, suckers.

Huge loss. He needs to relocate to a state with an ounce of sanity and get back into the game. Pennsylvania’s a lost cause.

Santorum was maybe the biggest loss of 2006. He was apparently done in by the purists who were angry that he supported the Scottish Lawyer for the senate. Yes, that was a mistake, but it was pretty near his only mistake.

I said at the time that Casey would predictably fold on abortion as soon as the pressure was on, because he wouldn’t want to be ostracized like his father. And he did.

The Church has not made idle threats. It has stated fact and that fact is that by promoting abortion, these yahoos have excommunicated themselves. There does not need to be a formal proclamation from the Holy See for each and every offender.

I don’t think it was the purists, so much as middle-of-the-road pro-lifers who went squishy on the war. That, combined with a luckluster GOP candidate for governor and massive vote fraud in Philly (as usual) did Santorum in.

Purists don’t account for the 19 points Rick lost by.

t's doubtful whether Casey, son of the legendary pro-life Pennsylvania governor Bob Casey, will ever be able to convince voters of his pro-life label again.

What makes you think they will even remember it 2010

By that time the democrats will have their corruption machine so enthrenched it won't matter anyway

Pennsylvania’s a lost cause.

With all the stupid White Liberals and Democrat loyal Blacks residing in Philadelphia (even both groups when the move to the burbs they stay the same )and the massive vote fraud I am afraid you are correct

How is that an idle threat? These idiots don’t care what the Church says anyway (that’s obvious). The Church issues a statement regarding what the Church teaches about it ... they ignore it. Now it’s between God and them. I don’t know about you, but that sounds pretty serious to me.

These are CINO’s (Catholic in name only). They have self excommunicated themselves and if they receive Holy Communion, they are heaping “coals of fire” on their head. God only knows I am not without sin but being pro-abortion is not one of them.

Same with Boston voters, who flee the high taxes of the city for New Hampshire. Where they vote for politicians who promise to... raise their taxes.

These are profoundly stupid people we're dealing with. Lenin didn't call them useful idiots for nothing.

If there were no hypocrisy in the world, their bishops would be all over these clowns instead of wasting their time defending and protecting illegal alien law breakers.

Most bishops come from working class, union based Democrat families. It’s hard for them to put aside their rootsand speak out against a scandalizing and heretical Democrat.
