Once in a while, it doesn’t hurt to hear why the action is being done, even if it isn’t what you want to hear on Free Republic. Note, what I said isn’t “We’re here to help you;” it’s more like the policing power of the government to protect the American public as a whole. If Shorty’s bull gets mad cow disease, probably from eating Chinese bone meal, then currently Shorty’s family loses all their cattle.

I know it’s not a popular view, but there is a reason.
