It looks like the WSJ may be considering making its content available for free also.

Why is WSJ making their content free online? Their information is geared toward the business folks and thus is valuable.

It looks like the WSJ may be considering making its content available for free also.Correction - WSJ has noted they probably will so the NYT feels a need to leap frog the WSJ preemptively. It was the WSJ that pushed the NYT into this position.
What is good about this is that all conservative bloggers can have free access to the NYT's liberal daily broadsheet and exposing them for who they are.

From what I understand, the ad rates at the New York Times have taken a dramatic plunge quite recently...

Actually, I think the best arrangement would be to see “ad-free” subscriptions where, for a small fee, you can get the content without all the blinking, blooping distractions.
If it were a site I visited daily, I might actually spring for that.
Of course, you can get software that scrubs the ads out of many websites but it then looks ugly with red x’s and “site not found” things all over the page.

There goes the traffic to my father-in-law's web site. he would copy times subscription articles verbatim to his web page. We figure the only way he got away with it is because there’s so little traffic to his site, no one reported him.

It looks like the WSJ may be considering making its content available for free also. After being called "not rational" and more, by Paul Gigot and his editorial board for wanting to secure our borders and enforce immigration laws in time of war, I have about as much need to read the WSJ as I do the NYT.

Why is WSJ making their content free online? Their information is geared toward the business folks and thus is valuable. The web is full of valuable and free information. Rupert must figure the traffic boost from making the content free will pull in more ad revenue than he loses in subscription revenue.
