John Abizaid, the retired Army general who headed Central Command
for nearly four years, said he was confident that if Iran gained
nuclear arms, the United States could deter it from using them.

Well, the good General might do a real service by just being
more direct:

"Radical Islam, partially embodied by today's Iran, is the new Communism.
We need to get down to work with deciding how to spend the next
couple of decades, containing the enemy and slowly helping them
onto the ash-heap of history."

Sometimes you just have to say it out loud, sir!

As far as I know, Gen. Abizaid is not running for President. Duncan Hunter is. He has the experience and wisdom to weigh all information and make the correct decision. I trust him absolutely to do this. I believe the military commanders will trust him also.
