To the extent Iran might pose a threat in the future, that threat will be far graver to Israel than to us. Therefore, Israel should use its regional military superiority to deal with any threat. There is absolutely no reason for the US to attack Iran.
I strongly disagree with both of you. The leadership of Iran has made it painfully obvious what their intentions are. Iran has technically been in a state of war with the US since the late 70s. They are involved with the killing of our troops as we speak in Iraq. Don’t forget the bombing of the embassy in Beirut, the taking of our embassy in Iran, and the dozens of terrorist actions backed by the Mullahs.
Your and Abizaid’s approach is similar to Chamberlain’s approach with Germany. I call it the Ostrich Theory. Just put your head in the dirt and ignore it and hope everything will be ok. Sorry, but that doesen’t work.
The problem is, that once Iran obtain’s a nuclear weapon, they are much more likely to use it. Because of that, they will attain a “superpower” status because of the fear of the use of these weapons. You have to understand the zeal behind the people in charge in that country. If you read about the Iraq-Iran war you will understand that the individual’s life means nothing in that culture. This is not the case in China or the Soviet Union. The cultures are much different and the respect for human life in islamic culture should be obvious by a cursory glance at any given day’s news headlines.
Another major fact, is that there is no war on terror without going through Iran. Iran is the birthplace of islamic terrorism. Without checking Iran, the WOT is INDEED a bumper-sticker slogan war.
The mistake we made in Iraq, was occupying with boots on the ground. I think we should level Iran’s millitary and civilian infrastructure. No need to occupy.

It has nothing to do with Israel, it has too do with OUR national security.
