I worked as a manager in one of the chip packaging plants for a company called Signetics in Manila in the 1980's.

The thing that fascinates me is we have workers who not only see "dwendes", but would enchant me after a few bottle of beers with such characters as :

MANANANGGAL --- A BAT LIKE female vampire that flies with only the upper body intact while the lower part of her body is missing. Looks like this :

TIKBALANG -- A Centaur in reverse ( head of a horse and body of a man ).

ASUWANG -- these creatures are shapeshifters, able to transform into a man, a dog and a pig for stealth and loves to feast on humans.

KAPRE --- These are giants as tall as trees who are basically humanoid in appearance and color although they resemble neanderthals. They appear only at night.

TIYANAK -- bloodsuckers resembling babies. They can move fast and often tricks its victim by crying and resembling an ordinary baby left out on places such as forest and thrash pit..Beware picking up abandoned babies...

BATIBAT -- Sometimes, apparently healthy Filipino men die for no reason after falling asleep. This is attributed to the BATIBAT, is a vengeful demon. These demons were blamed as the cause of the fatal nocturnal disease called bangungot. A batibat takes the form of a huge, fat woman that resides in trees. They usually come in contact with humans when the tree that they reside in is felled and made into a support post for a house.

The above are just the ones I can think of. I tell you, for you enterprising film makers out there, you have sufficient material from Philippine folklore to make a TV series like the Night Stalker.

The fact that a court judge would actually take these seriously only makes it more fascinating.

Yup, sure brings back childhood memories.

Filipino movies and comics are full of these critters btw.

There are many others, like the “Shokoy”, a critter very similar to the “Creature from the Black Lagoon”.
