As I stated after Humberto, overall I think we are just about done for the season as far as real U.S. threats go. I guess it’s too early to say that for sure but the trends would suggest it. IF we get something it would almost certainly be a homegrown GOM threat though... so they are generally worth watching.
Figures I’d be here for the one that didn’t blow up ;-)
the center has been fully onshore for about 1.5 hrs now, and is presently due east of pensacola as you suggest
Hey NN,
I told you I’d report about the surf...evidently it was awesome, not only skimboarders but surfers were able to catch a wave too.

My CCRADIO keeps cranking off.....they upgraded the flooding in LA County
I put CC WX into the list’ning-airwaves manually, and dang. Nothin’ but stock NOAA. (A reading of all the various San Bernardino weather station location temperature readings doesn’t interest me.)
It was an early morning and the sun was just starting to peep up over the horizon. Of course the doglet wants...no make that...NEEEEEEDS to go out. Heck, I'm not even feeling human yet because the coffee still hasn't figured out how to make itself yet, much less how to pour me that first cup which does so much into turning me into something sembling a human being.
Doglet does what he likes to do first thing in the morning which is to see who's been to visit and to warn them off in case they (whoever they might be) decide to return within the next couple of hours. As doglet is taking his own sweet time I decide to sit down on the front steps to wait for nature to finish its call of the wild.
Now remember, I've had no coffee and I've also not put on any spectacles. Out of the corner of my eye I see puffs of dark smoke poofing up from ground level. "Oh great!" I think to myself, "The ground is on fire and the garden hose is on the other side of the smoke signals."
Naturally I did what any self respecting blonde would do; I run inside, fill the coffee pot with water, go back down the stairs and scurry over to where the ground is still giving off smoke signals. Did I mention the closer I got to the smoke signals, the faster they went off? Naturally, I lean over closer in order to better see where the exact location of the fire causing the smoke signals is coming from.
EEEEW! There's something alive there and it's just looked me straight in the eye before it goes back to now frantically sending out its smoke signals even faster. One might wonder exactly what wonder-doglet is doing through all of this but never fear! He's on the job! See, when Mom made the funny eeeeped sound and jumped back about 3 feet, the wonder-doglet finally decided to do his own investigating of the smoke signals.
Ah, bliss! Wonder-doglet gets a small snoot full of 'smoke signal' and it appears some of the soot from the smoke signal has managed to affix itself to wonder-doglet's snout. This causes great happiness and as we all know, when wonder-doglets feel great happiness they have to go locate the just perfect patch of dirt in which to role around in to celebrate.
I personally don't like ground which moves or sends off smoke signals. I most especially don't like ground that moves, sends off smoke signals and has little beady eyes...especally when I've had no coffee and I'm going to have to confront this earth moving thingy without my glasses on. Because you see, "I don't want to get that up close to a beady eyed smoke storm." For pete's sake, I'm not even dressed yet and I'm definitely not ready to entertain any visitors.
Within 15 seconds or so it dawns on me the beady eyed earth moving thingy must also not be dressed for visitors as before my very eyes it disappears. It just poofs, it's gone, kaput, never to be seen again. Of course, being the scientific type I am, I rush back inside, make er...make that bake a pot of coffee and head for the study to see what google might be able to tell me. Ooops! Wait a minute, somethings missing! Now what in the world could that be? Ah yes, wonder-doglet is on the front porch outside being taunted by an extremely gleeful inside black cat.
I let wonder-doglet inside, left the formerly gleeful black cat to deal with one very insulted wonder-doglet and took my baked coffee with me into the study where I closed the door on the mayhem ensuing in the living room. And that's where I learned everything and more than I ever wanted to know about my smoke signal.
Cute story.
