Is it my imagination, or does it look like the bomb was somehow “paved over”? It looks like it’s punching through the asphalt, and that raises a whole lot of other questions, if that’s the case.

That's one of their tricks,and how the goodguys spot them early. The muzzies set gas fires on the road to soften up the asphalt which they then dig out, pack with a bomb, and then back fill with fresh asphalt. Luckily it leaves a heat spot than can be seen on infra red.

My guess is that the IED placement team placed it too low down in the gully beside the raised road - basically it had so much dirt & pavement to blow out of the way to get to the target, it was ineffective....thanks God!
