I am guessing that all the charge never went off. It might have been a cluster of artillery shells and only the one fused actually went off or it would have been a much more violent explosion.
someone forwarded this video to me in an email:
Subject: A close call 9 Sept 2007....
A video from a Michigan State Trooper assigned in Iraq.
Everyone,
Yesterday was a very interesting day for me. As you can see from the
attached video clip, my vehicle was engaged by an IED that was concealed
in a culvert under the road. Thankfully the bad guys can’t time our
vehicles very well. If you look closely, you can see an object laying
in the gravel on the left side of the road just before the detonation.
Sort of an aiming stake for the bad guys. We didn’t see it initially.
The engineers later found a 600 meter long command wire running from the
culvert to a vacant building near by. We were unable to positively
identify anyone after the detonation, so the bad guy(s) got away.
Unknown as to how much explosive was used. Rush hour on I-65 doesn’t
sound so bad right now.
I think they planted it to deep or it was in a culvert or drain pipe under the road....thank God!
Good theory - plus see my post #28 above - I think they were too deep down the gully side of the road. Had to lift too much dirt above the placement site.
