THEY'RE PUSHING FOR A HATE CRIMES LAW IN GEORGIA

THEY'RE PUSHING FOR A HATE CRIMES LAW IN GEORGIA Big deal, you say. So many other states have hate crime laws. Yeah, and that makes them just nifty, I suppose. Why is it so hard for people to understand that a hate crimes law is a thought crimes law? You're punishing someone not for what they did to someone else, but because of what they were thinking either before or while they were doing it. An assault is an assault. A beating is a beating. You punish the person for what they did to another person. There is no need for a prosecutor or a jury to go beyond that and try to figure out what the person was thinking when they did it. Intent is enough. The why of the intent isn't important. "Motive!" That's what I'll be hearing on the air. "Motive! What about motive?" Now hold on a minute. Are you telling me that you can't convict a man for murder and send him to prison for the rest of his life unless you can figure out just why he killed his victim? Can't you just see a jury coming back and telling the judge "Well, your Honor, we believe that the defendant killed that other dude, but for the life of us we can't figure out why he did it, so we're going to return a verdict of not guilty." Yeah ... that's the way things work. The head of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation may want a hate law, but the people of Georgia should tell him now. GBI boss Vernon Keenan says: "A hate crimes law is a statement that a crime committed because of hate or bias is a serious matter." Oh, and a crime committed just because someone wants someone else's car or money isn't?

Amen Neil.

Stop trying to modify crime.

Hate crimes laws establish a principle that what people say or think can be a crime. (like using the “N” word during a crime)

Then it can be extended into anything else we say or think about anything or anyone else.

Hate crimes laws are good Cuban or North Korean laws, but bad American law.

"A hate crimes law is a statement that a crime committed because of hate or bias is a serious matter."

Does that mean that a crime committed out of love is less serious? A lot of murders are committed by jealous lovers.

hate crimes law is a thought crimes law

It is? I thought it was a blatant law targeted at white males. It is intended to appeal to minority groups who make up much of the Democrat party. The idea is to give them the privilege of punishing white males for thinking bad things about them. All they need is a little criminal behavior with a hate crime charge attached to get a long prison sentence. As I remember the wording, minorities can not be charged with a hate crime committed against a white man. Hence, most charged with a hate crime are white males.

White males need a good fascist to lead them out of the morass to which they have been pulled into.

Boortz is right about this. Punish the crime, not the motivation.

But don't forget: To the Left results and actions are irrelevant. What's important is feelings and intentions. That's why Leftists are paving that old, familiar, well travelled Road to Hell so rapidly and so thoroughly.

My rant on Hate Crimes. Including two fine examples of hate crimes and why they weren't charged as hate crimes.

You’re absolutely right.

The Jena 6 are not being charged with a “hate crime” even though the crime was racially motivated.

I wonder if they uttered any racial epithets while they continued beating the unconscious “whitey”?

I’m amazed they would consider this. Don’t they know Al Sharpton himself said Thursday, “You cannot have justice meted out based on who you are rather than what you did.”

Don’t we have the brilliant Ted Kennedy to thank for all this @rap?
