I don’t believe it to be deliberate as in a form of attack. But I do not believe it to be accidental either.

I believe that it is entirely due to the communist driven lack of human dignity. As for the pet food, if China puts so little worth on human life except as to how it can benefit the “Party”, then the government not enforcing standards for food products, especially those that may go to animals, does not surprise me at all.

In other words, with the safety factor not important at all, the only thing to worry about is profit. What better way to make a profit than by using substandard or doped products?

Good for you with your pet’s health. We try to do the same.

"Hard to see how the younger generation would benefit from a rotary phone skill."

Only as a historical curiousity, really. We no longer turn the dial on our TV's, and alarm clocks seldom ring anymore. Sometimes I like to show these things to kids just so they understand where some of the expressions in our language come from. It was pretty funny seeing my sons trying to figure out how the dial worked. It wasn't obvious to them, which sort of surprised me. It's something I never thought about until I saw them trying to figure out this relic of the dark ages.

"But, it is why I am sticking to making my dog food at home, I know what is going in Isis’s food."

I make my cats' food at home now too. It took a bit of doing to get my calico with the program, but her sister took to it right away. Now they're happily munching ground rabbit, chicken and turkey . Duck is on order in the next batch of ground meat. The only thing that I don't like is that some of the nutritional additives I mix into their food are doubtless sourced from China.

There are books out that detail how to make suppliments at home. Some I use are brewers yeast and fish oil. I haven’t made ground eggshell yet. Some people even go so far to make their own bonemeal.

I don’t worry about the bonemeal, since I use meat that’s been ground up with bone and most internal organs. Fortunately, I can also get chicken hearts and livers from the same source, so a lot of the nutrients are coming right from the animal source. The glandular supplement and Vit B complex are from who-knows-where. Hopefully the high quality mean/bone/organ meat/egg yolk ingredients make up for any deficiencies in the remaining supplements. It’s got to be more nutritious than a diet of field mice!
