Dream Act: America's Nightmare
Team America PAC ^ | 09/20/2007 | Tom Tancredo and Bay Buchanan

The open borders lobby knows that they can’t introduce an amnesty, even if they call it a “comprehensive immigration reform” without feeling the wrath of the American people. So what they do? They try to sneak little mini-amnesties past us, and hope America doesn’t pay attention until it’s too late.

Just back from the August recess, they are already introducing a not so mini-amnesty, The DREAM Act by tacking it on to a Defense bill. Only congress could pretend that giving amnesty to over illegal aliens and even potential terrorists is “defense.”. The pro-Amnesty has long been trying to introduce the DREAM Act, and included it as part of the last three “comprehensive” amnesties. The DREAM Act allows any illegal alien who came to this country before they were 16 and has a GED or high school diploma to get legal status and eventually citizenship.

No doubt, we will be told “this is for the children,” but by crowding our schools, taking in state tuition, and costing taxpayers billions of dollars, this act will hurt American children.

Dream Act Facts:

1. Gives in state tuition and federal student loans to illegal aliens
2. Has no upper age limit for those who apply (for example a 45 year old can say he came to this country 20 years ago and get citizenship)
3. Gives immunity from deportation for anyone who applies while it goes through the long bureaucracy.

I wrote Sen. Jim DeMing (R/SC) asking him to vote against it and got a BEAUTIFUL response from him. His staff already had the response written and ready for folks like me. I feel like I got a “deal” getting Jim DeMint when I moved to S.C. ..... uh, but there’s that other guy ... didn’t hear back from him!

From NumbersUSA:

On its surface, the DREAM Act would provide amnesty to illegal aliens who entered the United States before the age of 16 and grant them in-state tuition. At the very least, these provisions give preferential treatment to students who shouldn't even be in the country over our own young people - many of whom will struggle to afford higher education.

But that is not all that is wrong with the DREAM Act. The bill was written in such a way that there is no upper age limit and very little burden of proof placed on the applicant. A 45-year-old illegal alien who had entered the country less than a year ago could game the system by simply walking into a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office and providing a sworn statement that he had been in the country since before he was 16. Thus, this is an invitation for just about every illegal alien to fraudulently claim the amnesty.

Furthermore, DREAM amnesty citizens over 21 years of age will be able to petition for their parents - the very people who broke the law to bring them into the country in the first place. The chief criminals will be rewarded after all.

It will take 41 NO votes to kill this amnesty. Currently, only 21 Senators are telling their constituents that they will vote NO on the amnesty. The vote will quite likely be next week!

Stop the DREAM Act Amnesty!
