Sifting the entrails for the hidden Mideast war (My Title: Secret Wars/Attacks work better)
Ottawa Citizen ^ | September 22, 2007 | David Warren

Together with perhaps a million other inquiring minds who want to know, I am still trying to figure out what happened over Dayr az Zawr in northern Syria on Sept. 6. And even more, what happened on the ground.

...[SNIP]

It further follows, I think, that much of the war in the Middle East is going offstage, curiously in the interest of all parties. For what we've found in the West is that the "peace movement" only responds to what is presented in the mainstream media.

It makes a certain amount of sense, today as during imperial frontier conflicts in the past, to keep as much as possible out of the news. Indeed, one of the mistakes of Vietnam, repeated in Iraq, was giving remarkably open access and full briefings to the media -- when for all practical purposes the reporting has been of assistance only to the enemy.

Sounds like Israel bombed something big in Syria.

Everyone's happy. Thanks to the news blackout, the MSM media is keeping its big mouth shut and the usual idiot activists don't know what to bitch about. Sounds like a plan to me.

Same article appears on David Warren's blog with a shorter title: "Going Offstage"

I think he is right on that. The fact that the MSM largely stopped reporting from Ramadi allowed our troops to do in Ramadi what they had previously done in Fallujah. Taking the gloves off in the heart of Anbar then played a big part in convincing the Anbar tribes to come over to our side. As one Iraqi recently said, 'The tribes never win wars, they only join the winners.'

It must be great if the MSM is keeping it hush-hush.

After processing numerous internet rumors, here is my speculative take: I believe that Syria was trying to facilitate the transfer of critical nuclear technology/materials from North Korea/Russia to Iran which would have given them a ballistic nuclear capability in weeks to months. US intelligence became aware, and decided to share the info with Israel under stringent security with very limited need to know. Israel conducted the raid to eliminate these assets, and the raid was successful. The French see the endgame and partially in response to this have changed sides, Syria, NK, Russia, and Iran are now the axis of evil.

They can guess as well as Warren can... and I'm sure they've figured it out. They simply choose not to share their speculation with the sheeple... for fear of exploding their soft, little heads with reality.

>>>... here is my speculative take: ...

Yours is as cogent a job of connecting the dots as I have read. Hangs together nicely. Good work.

One interesting point is that, if we knew this NK ship, reflagged as South Korean, was carrying NK nuke stuff, it would have been a simple matter to sink it at sea.

The fact we or the Israelis didn't do that, but waited until the "stuff" was in the Syrian bunker, says we wanted to send a "strong message" to both Syria and Iran.

About damn time!!
