BAGHDAD - The commander of U.S. military forces in the Middle East does not believe current tensions with Iran will lead to war and urges for greater emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy.

"This constant drum beat of conflict is what strikes me which is not helpful and not useful," Adm. William Fallon said in an interview with Al-Jazeera television, which made a partial transcript available Sunday

I guess I will wait and see the trascript so I can see the whole statement of the Adm not the spin Always Propaganda choose to put on it.

Find it odd they pulled out just two sentence instead of posting the whole quote. That smells of a reporter putting their own spin on a statement.

Did Adm. Fallon ACTUALLY say those awful things about Gen. Patraeus or not? Is Adm. Fallon a loony Liberal?

Despite all the bluster of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranians are not all that keen to go to war directly with the US. Ahmadinejad is riding a high-stakes bluff, and probably has no more than a pair of eights (in the form of mid- to long-range missile technology), certainly no aces.

The North Korean nuclear technology is all over in Syria, with limited chances of getting it transferred into Iran by any known means. And most of that may have been taken out a couple weeks ago, with a daring Israeli raid of facilities in Syria. Not much publicity about that, mostly because the US State Department wants to preserve the deal going on the six-nation talks with North Korea, and our “official” ignorance of what happened in Syria is supposed to keep the Red Chinese at the negotiating table.

If he really said all that and it is just not subterfuge and psy-ops, he should be relieved of command immediately. I can’t see how saying those things could be helpful, unless an attack is coming very soon. I hope Bush isn’t back to the winning “hearts and minds” crap again. I didn’t like part I. of that so I am not real excited about a sequel.

What I’ve read is that Admiral Fallon absolutely refuses to permit Iran to be attacked so long as he’s the head of CENTCOM. There is a lot of high-level opposition in our military to an attack on Iran. I guess there is a point at which Adm. Fallon and others like him will have to follow orders or else. At least I would hope so. The military isn’t supposed to be a democracy.

"What I’ve read is that Admiral Fallon absolutely refuses to permit Iran to be attacked so long as he’s the head of CENTCOM."

If true, he should be relieved of that burden and replaced with someone who better understands the job. You can certainly see at least a partial source of DinnerJacket's confidence that he will not be attacked. You have to really wonder how someone that doesn't realize the danger of an islamo-nut acquiring nuclear arms reached that rank, or was trusted with the responsibility in the first place. Iran is not intimidated, why would they be? I think there will have to be a 48 hour bombing campaign in their future because I just don't see them halting their pursuit of nuclear arms.
