FRONT ROYAL, Va., Sept. 24 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, STL, president of Human Life International, (HLI) today blasted a gang of 16 Catholic senators for their votes on an amendment to HR 2764 to overturn the Mexico City Policy instituted by President Reagan to prevent U.S. taxpayer dollars from funding overseas abortions.

"For the most part it's the usual suspects who claim to be Catholic while their consistent pro-abortion votes amount to a betrayal of the Catholic faith. We expect treachery from them," Fr. Euteneuer said. "But the great disappointment here is Robert Casey, Jr., whose late father courageously stood against the tide for life in his political party. It is disgusting to think that Casey Junior ran as a 'pro-life' candidate. He has betrayed those who voted for him on those grounds."

"At a time when these same politicians bewail America's standing in the world they vote to export death to nations that don't want it, in violation of those nations' religious traditions. They are the new 'ugly Americans' practicing imperialism at its worst," Father Euteneuer said.

The gang of 16 includes: Robert Casey, Jr. (D-PA), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Ted Kennedy (D-MA), John Kerry (D-MA), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), Susan Collins (R-ME), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Ken Salazar (D-CO), Tom Harkin (D-IA), Richard Durbin (D-IL), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Patty Murray (D-WA), Jack Reed (D-RI), Christopher Dodd (CT-D), Claire McCaskill (D-MO).

Founded in 1981, Human Life International is the world’s largest pro-life, pro-family organization that is dedicated to defending life, faith and the family, with branches and affiliates around the world.

"Treachery" is certainly the right term.

So here’s what the Catholic Church can do to make a real statement about worldwide murder otherwise know as abortion. Excommunicate these Catholic politicians who keep the murderous practice in the USA as well as around the world going strong. Make a real statement, not some whimpy phony baloney statement !!!

I completely agree that they should be excommunicated; unfortunately, Fr. Euteneuer doesn’t have the authority to do this.

As usual, RINO Collins is the only Republican. I doubt these senators are practicing Catholics, not that I have room to criticize.

That is an odd statement! The Church is not a club like the 4-H Club. Members are governed by Canon Law which predates civil law in many countries! As much as this may aggravate you personally, those accused are entitled to a trial for so serious an offense as a formal excommunication.

God will see to it. This is a temporal issue; He deals in the everlasting.

Regards,
Frank

Casey’s vote is absolutely appalling. He ran as a 100% pro-life candidate and emphasized his father’s courageous pro-life stance as Pennsylvania governor.

No Frank,it’s not a temporal issue,It’s the murder of innocent life that God’s created worldwide. I reject your interpretation and people who vote for abortion don’t need a trial. The issue needs a Church that stands by its dogma !!!

Obviously once he got in the Senate, he was informed that his future would be very limited unless he adopted the ‘Rat party line.

PA voters chose him over the adamantly pro-life Rick Santorum.

The Pope is the Servant of the Servants of God. He is not a temporal authority as he once was in the Middle Ages. Canon Law is a body of law spelled out over centuries. If you doubt that, check Ed Peters’ website; he is a noted canonist.

http://www.canonlaw.info/blog.html

I find it hideous that people who not only vote for abortion, but who actively support abortion openly and by donations to the Margaret Sanger Eugenics Foundation (AKA, Planned Parenthood), are allowed to continue to be Catholic. However, visit any Canon Law site and witness the procedures involved in expelling someone from the Church “formally.” Many have already expelled themselves “latae sententiae” which means by virtue of the fact. However, someone so brazen as to be Pro Abort is not going to hesitate to receive Communion or to catalog themselves as Catholic anyway so you want the “full Monty” as they say.

The Catholic Church does stand by its Dogma. What other Church still totally rejects artificial contraception, withdrawal of food and water from someone in a “vegetative state,” divorce and so on?

I think Pope Benedict put it well -- those Catholic politicians who have endorsed abortion have excommunicated themselves. I'm no Catholic, but I believe Benedict was referring here to the concept of excommunication a jure, where no trial is carried out or needs to be. Every time such a Catholic receives communion, he is desecrating that sacrament, for he has already made himself anathema. Having declared against the unborn innocents, he has also declared against God.

Last Sunday, I attended the Red Mass with my family and other members of the bar in Lake County, Illinois.

And who was it that gave a the first reading of the Mass? It was our local Democratic pro-death State Representative!

Can someone explain to me how you can be endorsed by Planned Parenthood, be pro-abortion, and stand up on the alter at a Mass for Catholic lawyers?
