First of all the fact of the matter I give props to the security officer for having the courage to say something and that not the only plant that has had problems with the sleeping officer wackenhut and there clients make it so difficult to stay awake, no reading, video games, no weight room or running unless its the real thing, etc. Its how wackenhut/clients runs it the security force. The owners of the nuclear plants see security as “NO” profit department. they lose money so they give them a small budget to work with pretty much enough for pay roll and for state weapon req.. They get written up if you play games on the Internet to try to stay awake or work 72 hours in a week becuse the company is really slow on hiring more people because of budget issues. Your plant co-workers think your department is a joke because you are the lowest payed employee onsite even though your might lose your life to save theres if something should happen. So I don’t believe that the guy that took the video of his coworker was politically motived to do this. I go to my site and see the samething sometimes.

sorry about the above post. I was a little piss’ed off about this hole thing. People expect that the good little fairy will make sure you get tucked in at night but they are not willing to go that extra mile when it becomes a dirty job that really sucks.

loose lips sink ships , but the middle finger will plug the hole

By what your describing you/they are having a serious management/leadership problem..

Thats certainly possible and that is a matter of concern for everyone..

Obtaining Real Security in reality is complex and difficult. I would agree over time there is a tendency when the Security Managers are weak to emphasize appearance over reality.. I have seen that happen before.

I am sure you understand my previous description is how a properly run security team operates. My concern is the public should not leave with the impression that sleeping, resting or even moderate exercising are not legitimate activities while a part of a long term security assignment. In fact those are all aspects of a legitimate security detail.

It is very unfortunate when public and corporate perceptions are wrong with regards to what security entails and what it doesn’t..

There are reasons you have guard mounts and maximum two hour shifts. If you have a High Security Requirement and people working a post for an 8 hour shift with maybe a head break or two. Or you have people on high security details as civilians earning less than say $25 an hour.

You do not have Security.

Two hours is the maximum you can expect people to maintain a high level of readiness/awareness at a time.

If your Security Team is not making a modestly comfortable living wage for their area. If there is no program of ongoing financial and personal evaluations occurring.

You do not have Security.

I would agree over time there will be pressures to reduce cost/readiness and if your saying from your experience the system has broken under those pressures. If that is the case then I agree we should all be concerned..

What should not be allowed to occur are cosmetic changes as opposed to legitimate corrections to form and function.

I think we are both try to get to the same point.

Real Security as Opposed to Cosmetic.
