It’s depressing to think that condemnation from the left of Iran may come about because of the Iranian governments positiojn on gays.

I agree.

I find it sad that the audience applauded his remarks about (Bush's) wiretapping and laughed at his no-gays-in-Iran statement.
It all fits with Jay-Walking phenomena and lower academic scores after completing 4 years in ivy league schools, and a conflicted, agenda-driven media.

That’s exactly it. The only/biggest outcry when he was speaking was about the gay comment.

Genocide, nuclear attack, oppression of women, providing arms to kill US soldiers - all those just went by, but...

say something remotely negative about homos and they get upset.
