Do you even know what kind of projects the world bank finances?

No hand outs, but loans. Like a big SBA. The face the same problems as well.

When you invest in people, like any good business knows, you get a return. Our return is an increase in the number of consumers worldwide. A damn good thing for us, because there is no way our country could sustain itself if the only buyers of our production were in this country.

Another return is the fact that an economically happy population is less likely to be a politically unhappy one. Not a bad thing given the world as it is now.

I will forget about the basic human needs met in this case by investment instead of international welfare. Disease reduction, increased life span (and increased individual lifetime consumption of goods and services) and higher literacy. I know those things are not important to some people. I feel good when anyone succeeds though, if it is through investment and work.

Just because it has the word “World” in it or had a Global reach does not mean it is all bad or Conservatives should turn their heads. It is a big market out there, one that can grow with guidance and help from those who have done it. The World bank tries to step in and create a situation where the relief efforts will garner a payback down the road before others step in with a hand out from our coffers

Being a leader is a good thing, one should be proud of our success as a nation and our ability to help and guide others though planning and wise (mostly) investment.

from the World Bank site: “Our work focuses on achievement of the Millennium Development Goals that call for the elimination of poverty and sustained development. The goals provide us with targets and yardsticks for measuring results.”

Have you read the UN Millennium Development Goals?
Here enjoy.

Glad you are finally coming out as a big UN supporter.

Hum, ending poverty through investment instead of handouts.

Building economies to empower people to become consumers.

Yeah, pretty bad stuff.

I know this will come as a shock to you, perhaps many others, but we have a Global economy already. You are starring at part of it right now.

That Genie is not going back in the bottle, no matter how much we curse the UN or how much disgust we have for any given Social or Political movement. People will want their cheap Ipods and cell phones and cars and computers. So how do we deal with the Genie? I would rather not scream into the wind trying to tell the hurricane to go away, because it wont no matter how much I wish it would. I want to find ways to let my ideals become part of the inevitable change. We would be foolish to fight it, but smart to direct it, mold it and bend it to our way. Indeed the smart money rests there, for we are no longer the agriculture based economy of our forefathers, but an industrial and service giant. Yes I know there are issues now with exporting of jobs etc. but those are internal and can be changed with effort. It still remains that we are the largest economy on this planet despite our size.

Do I love the UN, of course not, but I will not dismiss certain aspects of its efforts either. It would be foolish and ignorant to do so. There have been great strides in health and economic development amongst the corruption and intrigue. Those benefit our nation as well. Disease can be spread easily now because of where we are in transportation and trade, the UN efforts along with others have helped prevent and or contain some of those outbreaks. Several third world nations are building banking and revenue systems, many of which are a first in those countries, though international efforts. People who never heard the term 401k before now have started to look at investing in themselves as new industries and jobs open up where there were once none. People once waiting in a line behind a CARE truck getting some rice now stand in a payroll line. It has been slow going but the efforts are starting to pay off. If that is not capitalism I don’t know what is. Like I said economically happy people are also a politically happy group in most respects. This can reduce threats to our interests here and abroad (Muslims not withstanding)

95% of the UN is crap and is not performing its job anywhere near as it was defined in the charter. They have gotten us into more sh*t than I can think of. The noble intentions have been replaced by deceit and corruption. But there have still been benefits to us as a country in some areas, even if it is not directly obvious.

We are a world player, for ill or naught, we invest in others so they may invest in us. We seek good business worldwide. I would like to extend that customer base.

It’s not for the love of mankind or a touchy feely warm hug, though I will use that as I may in selling the idea to those will such intent, it is for the continued performance of our business efforts as a nation. Like I have said before, we are only 300 Million, in a world with 6 billion potential customers. We can produce more than we need, who shall purchase the rest?

Even with the corruption and other issues, the balance of effort the World Bank has put forth has been positive for those regions.

I know anything with the terms World or Global scare many, but they are just terms, ones we have to deal with in the 21st Century. It is up to us to define those terms either through the eyes of fear or the embrace of the sheer possibilities of our future, a future based on our values and our nations efforts and abilities. The ironic part is that we created this giant. I would like to see it through.
