“Damn Capitalist....”
Actually sounds like socialism to me. But maybe you can explain how taxpayer funding the World Bank to finance projects that are intended to reduce poverty and help others abroad is Capitalism? Go ahead, I’m willing to learn.
No hand outs, but loans. Like a big SBA. The face the same problems as well.
When you invest in people, like any good business knows, you get a return. Our return is an increase in the number of consumers worldwide. A damn good thing for us, because there is no way our country could sustain itself if the only buyers of our production were in this country.
Another return is the fact that an economically happy population is less likely to be a politically unhappy one. Not a bad thing given the world as it is now.
I will forget about the basic human needs met in this case by investment instead of international welfare. Disease reduction, increased life span (and increased individual lifetime consumption of goods and services) and higher literacy. I know those things are not important to some people. I feel good when anyone succeeds though, if it is through investment and work.
Just because it has the word “World” in it or had a Global reach does not mean it is all bad or Conservatives should turn their heads. It is a big market out there, one that can grow with guidance and help from those who have done it. The World bank tries to step in and create a situation where the relief efforts will garner a payback down the road before others step in with a hand out from our coffers
Being a leader is a good thing, one should be proud of our success as a nation and our ability to help and guide others though planning and wise (mostly) investment.
