Deportations lead to protest

Shouting matches and a few scuffles punctuated a demonstration against Irving police's Criminal Alien Program, which has led to more than a thousand deportations this year.

About two dozen counter-protesters waded into the crowd of thousands who came out to protest the department's coordination with federal immigration authorities. Soon people were screaming at each other, and police escorted some counter-protesters away.

A police sergeant at the scene said two counter-protesters, a brother and sister in their 60s, were arrested on suspicion of assault. He said one scratched a demonstrator and another grabbed a demonstrator by the throat.

Carlos Quintanilla, the activist who organized the demonstration, urged the crowd to boycott the Irving Mall and call the mayor to demand an end to deportations.

You have to wonder what the protesters did or said to a pair of 60 somethings to get that sort of reaction? I'd guess "did" was a more likely guess than "said".

Since May, ICE officials confirm that 600 Irving inmates have been identified for deportation. Over the last two years, more than 2,000 inmates have been identified for deportation, city officials say.
